Best supermarket delivery service?

I have had a lot of problems with Tesco delivery over the last year and am thinking of changing. So which supermarket would you recommend for reliability, low substitutions and pleasant delivery people?

Ocado offers a substantial discount for first delivery (£20 off your shop when you spend £80 plus free delivery.) Ocado has never made substitutions. Some of their own range are competitively priced.

barnabythebat · 03/01/2019 08:49

Morrisons are great and also despatch from a warehouse which means far less subs. Some of their customer service agents are a bit abrupt and not overly helpful but that's the worst part

Nanasueathome · 03/01/2019 08:54

I use Ocado or Waitrose, depending on who has the best offers
Rarely any substitutions with Ocado

MyCatIsAFiend · 03/01/2019 08:58

We find Sainsbury's to be very reliable and relatively few substitutions. We avoid Asda and Tesco after a few incidents where they not only turned up but didn't tell us they weren't coming....

longwayoff · 03/01/2019 08:59

Ocado are good and minimum order of £40 as opposed to Waitrose £60. No problems, ever, with either. Use both depending on available delivery slots etc. Also use Iceland sometimes for odd or forgotten things like dog food, water, other bits and pieces, I never reach their free delivery total £35, so pay £2 for that. Great service from all of them.

Theweasleytwins · 03/01/2019 09:00

We use ocado- mostly because dh is a delivery driver for them. Hardly any subs and 5th shop you get either chocolate or champagne

ElizabethMainwaring · 03/01/2019 09:08

Ocado, and from what Ive heard, Morrisons are good. Not a fan of Sainsbury's, I love their food, but they often have lots of stuff out of stock. Their use by dates aren't great either. Never had a bad experience with Asda. I'd definitely give ocado a go.

ElizabethMainwaring · 03/01/2019 09:09

Ocados delivery people are great too, and everything is always well packed.

JLbaby · 03/01/2019 09:17

I think it depends where you live, I've tried most of them and have settled on Sainsburys, great produce, good dates, delivery drivers always friendly and helpful, never been late - and I got a Christmas gift from them this year!

Tried Ocado and they were always late, Morrisons I only had 2 deliveries and in both of those I had leaking products. Tesco the dates on the products weren't great and the fresh produce wasn't good, Asda - terrible, don't even get me started on them.

NoIAmSpartacus · 03/01/2019 09:19

Morrison's are excellent, they use the same warehouse as Ocado so no/less substitutions, everything's always got plenty of shelf life when it arrives and drivers have always been friendly.

I've found Sainsbury’s to be the worst, always receiving stuff that's out of date that day or the next day, rude drivers who often refuse to bring my shopping upstairs when I'm clearly
struggling, despite customer services saying they should help, and always full of ridiculous subs. But I guess that's relative to the store it's coming from!

ems137 · 03/01/2019 09:28

I think it all depends on where you live. I've lived in a few different towns/cities and used all of the different companies and they've all been different standards.

For example; Sainsbury's in my current city have a very poor standard of fruit and veg but in my previous large town were the best supermarket for everything.

Asda in my current city are very good for everything

Morrison's have the best quality fruit, veg and meat and I love their delivery service.

Ocado sent me an out of date chicken and substituted a few of my items with not very good ones. Their customer service was excellent though and after 1 email they just refunded me.

StopTheVeganMadness · 03/01/2019 09:28

Thanks everyone. I’m leaning towards morrisons. I assumed Ocado were more expensive. My local supermarket is sainsburys so that’s where I tend to pop for top ups, although trying to get into better habits to avoid that.

Interesting that morrisons use a warehouse rather than store pickers.

Morrisons offer a monthly delivery pass, so I think I will sign up to that and see how they go before committing to a whole year.

Getting my last delivery from Tesco today to use the £15 vouchers they sent because they fucked up my Christmas delivery. Just had a message to say they are running late Hmm

I've found Tesco delivery quite efficient but getting fed up at the constant poor choice. They seem to be dropping a lot of products at an alarming rate. There's a lot of stuff we can't get anymore.

Going to try Sainsbury's and Morrisons for a while, see how they compare. Ocado and Waitrose don't deliver to our area yet :(

SherlocksDeerstalker · 03/01/2019 09:42

I spend an awful lot less on my Ocado shop than I do when I go to Sainsburys’s!

LittleBearPad · 03/01/2019 09:43

Ocado runs the Morrison’s home delivery service so should be good. They are great at their own branded deliveries.

speakfriendandenter · 03/01/2019 09:47

Love Morrisons!
Very nice delivery drivers, always friendly & helpful.
Rarely substitutions & they let you know beforehand, plus they actually make sense.
The fruit, veg & meat dates are pretty good too.
Whenever I've had an issue they've been really helpful & if I've had a delivery with too many substitutions they've sent me a £10 voucher!
I love the little samples/gifts that they sometimes send too!

Buxtonstill · 03/01/2019 09:48

Another voting for Ocado. only a couple of times I have had problems in 10 yr+ of weekly/twice weekly use. Way cheaper than Tesco. If you PM me, I will give you a code that will give you £20 voucher off your first shop.

EmmaStone · 03/01/2019 09:52

Yup, Ocado, very easy to navigate website, competitive pricing, I like that they sell Waitrose (don't know what I'll do when the affiliation ends and they start selling Morrison's stuff...), I get 25% off 'healthy' food and free delivery with my health insurance, good availability of slots, good communication, no quibble returns.

PickAChew · 03/01/2019 09:59

No ocado here, but I've been using sainsburys for years with few problems. Tried waitrose a few times over the past year and not been sufficient impressed to carry on past the initial £20 off per order offer.

AlanThePig · 03/01/2019 10:23

Ocado. I've used them for years and they have never let me down. I still spend less than I I do in Tesco and the food seems much nicer with good dates.

Twigletaddict · 03/01/2019 10:26

Ocado here too, did a massive order yesterday, 1 substitution in 120 items.

potatoscone · 03/01/2019 10:29

We don't have Ocado. Asda are awful, Tesco not bad and Sainsbury's my No. 1

Housewife2010 · 03/01/2019 10:32

I love Ocado. I've used them for 11 years and they are always excellent. The drivers are friendly and professional. I have had one late delivery due to the van breaking down. The driver rang me twice to apologise and Ocado gave me a £10 voucher for goodwill.

CarolDanvers · 03/01/2019 11:05

Ocado. Look for the voucher that gives 30% of your first shop and a years free delivery. They usually send it it you register an email address with them but don't do a shop straight away.
