Posting here for traffic really instead of general health...hope you cn help.

Ds (16) had 2 upper teeth taken out today at the hospital in preparation for his brace.
(Ths mght be relevant i dont know ..but an attempt was made at the dentist but he passed out just after the injections!)

Here goes..he had iphoren (sp) when we got home.
2 hours later i gave him paracetamol with codine..it said it was ok for his age and i thought it would sort his pain better than just the paracetamol. (He was n alot of pain)
Then ? 1 hourish later his eyes swelled/puffed up..lke an allergy.

I gave him piroten and a bag of peas .
They still look puffy after 2nd dose of pirotn.
(He then had a nosebleed...poss un conected as he is prone to them ...but boy did he look a mess !!)

So sorry this long winded post is ....could it be the paracetamol and codine tablets or just his face reacting to anesthetic/ and teeth removal..he is due more tablets soon and dont know what to give.

Wowww soo long sorry .

I regularly take cocodamol and have never had that reaction. I would have thought the swelling was most likely caused by the teeth being removed. When I had my wisdom teeth removed in one go under a GA I had a puffy face for a while.

Do the discharge notes have a 24 hour number to call? If not, it’s probably best to ring 111 just in case I’m wrong as I have no medical training.

Sounds like a reaction to the anaesthetic but do phone the NHS helpline please.

Let us know how he gets on.

I think it's more likely he is reacting to his teeth being removed.

I would probably take him to be checked out in the morning if his eyes are still swollen and he is in a lot of pain.

Presumably he has previous not reacted to paracetamol or ibuprofen? I'd stick with paracetamol and ibuprofen for now especially as there is little to no evidence that 8/500mg codeine/paracetamol is any more effective than paracetamol alone.

Thank you all for your quick reply s. Iwill stick to just the paracetamol then .
He has had a reation to " something " a fw months ago when did have to take him in 111 advice . Blood results are still awaiting.
Think you are all right ..his body did not like the anesthic and teeth removal.

(As a aside ..his teeth were wrapped and put in a paper bag with a picture of male and female tooth fairies!! )
