Explain something about Zombies to me.....

So there is something I don’t get about all zombie movies/tv shows etc and it’s been puzzling me for ages.

Bear with as it might be more than one thing Grin

  1. Zombies eat humans, humans when bitten turn into zombies and yet in all portrayals on any media zombies are eating dead bodies. Technically this wouldn’t be possible as the deceased human would have turned or would turn whilst being nibbled upon.
  1. Zombies can’t swim so it would be very difficult for continent to continent infection unless airborne. But it appears infection is spread via biting
  1. If zombies need to eat people to survive how come when the food source is scarce they don’t seem to wither but remain animated (looking at you walking dead)

I am not overly invested I’m just watching the Charlie B Dead Set on Netflix 😂 I do know that zombies aren’t real —but that’s not going to stop me from keeping Tina in the larder or the knives sharp— yet I am still bewildered by the stupidity of survivors.

Where am I going wrong?

That Venn diagram Grin so true!

noodlenosefraggle · 02/01/2019 16:48

In I zombie, they have to eat brains. If the victim is scratched or bitten anywhere else, they turn into a zombie, but the brain eating obvs means you're dead and you can't be turned into a zombie Grin The brain thing also happens in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. These two sources are the only two sources of my zombie knowledge, so I'm hoping the comedy zombie genre is therefore correct and the serious zombie genre is not Grin

On a different note can anyone recommend a good zombie film/ book? I've read wwz ( even watched the "film" ) I've read the books mentioned above but I'm always on the lookout for a new fix

I enjoyed Mark Tufo's Zombie Fallout series, I didn't read all the way to the end as it got less interesting in the last few books.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 02/01/2019 17:04

there's no errant apostrophe in the Venn Diagram.

I am ready for zombies, so long as they are not fast. In case of fast zombies I am hoping my iffy thyroid will protect me, as the random vaccine did for Brad.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 02/01/2019 17:09

You're right MsMighty, I read 'It's title, WWZ' but it actually says 'It's titled WWZ'. I apologise to Mr/Ms Oatmeal for being the only thing worse than a grammar pedant ... a wrong grammar pedant. Grin

Thanks! Downloaded it. The Shaun Whittington ones are good "snatchers"
Also surviving the evacuation ones by frank tayell are quite good. Tho I lost interest after the 11th book. Sorry to hijack the thread Blush

  1. It takes time for the virus to multiply in the dead body, so reanimation dosen't happen for a few days, and only if enough of the body is left. Not everyone killed will become a zombie.
  1. Zombies don't need air so can walk along bottom of river or sea.
  1. Zombies don't need to eat to survive, it's an impulsive course by the virus to help it multiply. The host remains dead, so does not require substance.

Book reccs -
Charlie Higson The Enemy series. Aimed at young teens but v good
I loved I am Ledgend. The films actually pretty good
Death of Grass is post apocalyptic rather than zombie but excellent as is Station 11
Michael Roberts The Alpha Plague series is also good although there's a lot of them.

Just for my zombie loving friends. 😁

Zombies Would Wipe Out Humans in Less than 100 Days. A tongue-in-cheek mathematical model reveals that zombies, if left unchecked, could wipe out humanity within 100 days. A new article in a peer-reviewed student journal finds that the zombie hordes would take Earth's population down to a mere 273 survivors in 100 days ...6 Jan 2017

Jonathan Maberry's Rot & Ruin series is good, it's set fifteen years after the zombie apocalypse and the survivors live in fortified towns while the zombie roam free outside.

The same author has another series called the Dead of Night series which is set in the same universe and is the story of how the apocalypse came about in the first place.

The Newsflesh trilogy is another series set after the end of the apocalypse and shows how humans live alongside the threat of zombies, it follows a group of bloggers who start looking into how the disease came about.

I reckon Iceland would be the place to be in a zombie outbreak, not Reykjavik though as there are several airlines who the airport there as a hub/stop off for long haul. The advantage of Iceland (or Alaska, Siberia, Northern Finland, Greenland, Northern Canada etc) is that the zombies would freeze solid during the winter. If they're not alive then they're not generating any body heat.

Sorry went off to start Z Nation 😱 way better than TWD! Rather enjoying it!

Haven’t read any Zombie lit and do err on the side of comedy/zombies (loved PP&Z and I zombie) so I’m v pleased to have learnt more about the z apocalypse!

I shall continue to stockpile tins of Toms 😂
