OOH go or suck it up and wait?

Sunday evening I developed a fever and body aches and woke in the night with a swollen painful tonsil, bleeding and streaked with white. Google says that's likely bacterial (strep) tonsillitis instead of viral.

I couldn't get an appointment at the GP, so I got Difflam, paracetamol and ibuprofen and kept dosed up and rinsing with salt water. Yesterday it was just about bearable, but the night was awful.

I know it's stupid but I can't make up my mind whether to try to get an OOH appointment and sit around for ages waiting with other sick people, or to wait until tomorrow and try the gp again.

Do you have a pharmacy near you that tests for strep throat? Quite a few do now - you pay a small fee and they swab the throat and can give you antibiotics if needed. That might be easier than waiting around.

If not I’d call OOH and see what they say. Tonsillitis is awful and can get worse quickly. Hope you feel better soon.

Every man and their dog will be waiting for tomorrow to make an appt. just to warn you.

Go to OOH that sounds like more than a mild infection. If the pain killers were controlling the fever and pain id say to wait but because it’s unmanageable with otc meds I think you should go.

Go to OOH, I’m a nurse, you need to be seen today.

I hadn't thought about going to a chemist. I'll see if I can find one. Ordinarily I avoid doctors like the plague and would just leave it alone, but google worried me with how long you can be contagious and what can happen if you don't treat it!
