Were her eyes affected at the end? Or was I just seeing things?

As we are doing spoilers I just wanted to point out that I said all along the blind people would save the day!

MyBreadIsEggy · 30/12/2018 15:53

XmasPostman I kept saying to my DH as we were watching it, why don’t they just blind themselves?!

Onestep2 · 30/12/2018 17:52

I was so stressed watching it hahaha I get majorly sucked into these type of films hahaha

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 30/12/2018 18:05

I really enjoyed it. I can suspend my disbelief for things that could happen, even if they’re far fetched, like the rapids bit.

This is my favourite genre though! Grin

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 30/12/2018 18:13

I thought it was good

But i prefered the book

As far as I remember she was alone a little longer in the book, the ending was definitely bleaker and there wasnt the forest bit or gangs of insane people...but its been a while since i read it

But overall i 'enjoyed' it

SixButterflies · 30/12/2018 18:24

I found this so exciting and moving. Was riveted for the whole film. I love Sandra Bullock - especially when she plays an intense introvert with not-always-likeable characteristics.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 30/12/2018 18:26

I bought the book to read waiting for dh in a waterstones cafe

I had to text him to say

DO NOT come up behind me!

SatsumaFan · 30/12/2018 23:20

Just watched it and really enjoyed it! Love a tense thriller.

Agree The Road is better, but this is still very good. I watched The Road when I was pregnant with my first, 8 years ago, and wept for ages after!

HulksPurplePanties · 31/12/2018 06:29

As far as I remember she was alone a little longer in the book

She was. She and Tom never hooked up in the book, he died when Gary killed everyone and she was left to raise the kids alone.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 31/12/2018 13:55

hulks

Thats what i said to dh Grin

Ive a dreadful habit of hedging my bets on here...i should have the courage of my convictions!!

AppleBlossomArseCheeks · 31/12/2018 14:08

Really enjoyed it. Was different to other films and I loved the positive ending.

Nannyplumbrocks · 01/01/2019 15:49

I think someone mentioned "a quiet place," upthread, watched it last night. Don't bother. It's dire Hmm

MarshaBradyo · 01/01/2019 15:52

I enjoyed it and liked John Malkovich - but pretty much like him in anything these days

Found it tense and glad the ending was happy

Nothisispatrick · 01/01/2019 16:00

I really liked it. Not scary but creepy. I was very disturbed by the book when I read it two years ago, it is far far darker than the film.

It's been awhile since I read the book, but if I remember correctly she physically hurts them (hard pinches and slaps) if they disobey her.

Yes, and she trains them from birth to have super hearing so they can guide her on the river. That was downplayed a bit in the film.

Esqueleto · 01/01/2019 17:14

Did she teach them how to swim I wonder? They handled the rapids pretty well.

WingsofNylon · 01/01/2019 23:42

I'm coming to this a bit late but here are the things that bothered me.

The rapids, it would have been more believable if she had them in life vests. Given they are by a river it would have been fairly easy to find so e sort of floatation devices for them.

The birds would never have survived the rapids.

All the indoor people would have had vitamin d deficiency.

The children would have had some severe issues. I've seen what happens to children who aren't socialized. They wouldn't just want to run off and play at the end. They would be shocked to see so many other humans.

Having said all that, and despite hating Sandra, I massively enjoyed the film. It gave me very messed up dreams.

Sunnysidegold · 02/01/2019 00:00

Just watched this. Quite enjoyed it. Did comment when she was banging on to the kids about not looking that shes bound to poke their eyes out now to save any hassle and I thought about the people being blind before she got to them.

Agree about John malkovich just being a bit meh when his wife is killed.

Motherhood is tough enough withoit doing it a) blindfolded and b) running from scary beasties.
