Shopping on Xmas eve?!

Espanio · 23/12/2018 18:03

I’m not celebrating Xmas this year due to spending it alone, however I still need to do my weekly shop 😩 when would be the best time to go tomorrow? I live a 10 min walk away from a large Tesco so would be doing it there

It will be busy all day so go at a time that suits you.

Crunchymum · 23/12/2018 18:10

First thing!!

I found early morning in chaos . If you go in the afternoon plenty reduced food but less chance of specifics especially carrots and sprouts

I would go as it opens and get enough food for a few days. Shops will have calmed down a bit by the 27th. Do a full shop then.

OhTheRoses · 23/12/2018 18:18

I think I'd go late if you have no commitments. I hope you have a lovely day. I fantasise about Christmas alone.

Side of salmon and champagne in bed with the remote would do me.

Long time no see bibbity.

Espanio · 23/12/2018 18:33

Thank you @OnTheRoses

Just checked online and the store is open 6am-7pm I’m thinking 5pm onwards?? As most people will be doing Xmas eve celebrations by that point

I'd go later, think you're right, people will be doing Xmas stuff from later.

slappinthebass · 23/12/2018 20:00

Christmas Eve evening is always dead and loads of bargains. As long as you don't need something specific then you'll be fine to go then.

KnockMeDown · 23/12/2018 20:02

I would check closing time, some of our local supermarkets are open at 6am but closing at 5pm.

JustanotherCHRISTMASuser01 · 23/12/2018 20:24

Ours is opening at midnight- husband persuading me to go errr no

Grace212 · 23/12/2018 20:33

A supermarket opening at midnight on Xmas Eve... madness.

Grace212 · 23/12/2018 20:34

before anyone says it, I've nothing against shopping at midnight....it would suit me as a night owl...but it's all this extended opening hours at xmas and the general mass consumer crazy, I don't get it.

is it normally a 24 hour one?

a pp said about needing to end the culture we have for retail workers and I totally agree. It probably applies to a lot more workers though.

Grace212 · 23/12/2018 20:35

oops wrong thread Blush

SpeckledyHen · 23/12/2018 20:37

As late as possible , quiet and bargains to be had .

thebigmaniswatching · 23/12/2018 21:07

The morning will be chaos in my experience of working in retail but as the day wears on the quieter it will be, you just risk there not being much left.

I’m done now for Christmas, the first time I’ve not worked Xmas eve and Boxing Day for absolutely years!! Can’t bloody wait!

WTBE · 23/12/2018 21:34

I would just go when it suits you tbh. There are probably hundreds of people having these same discussions about what time to go (I've been asked twice today) and all thinking it will be quieter in the morning/afternoon. Good luck!
