I just wondered if you'd had any jaw dropping requests for Christmas gifts?

Be that odd, hugely expensive, massively unreasonable or just plain funny?

I love those moments, Mrs!

Maelstrop · 23/12/2018 14:49

Not Christmas, but a wedding list with a seriously cheeky/outrageous request that I have to mention it! My cousin, who I barely know, sent her wedding list round, requesting, amongst many other items, a 3 piece black leather suite costing many thousands. We all work, but none of us is realistically going to drop £5000 on a leather suite!

Someone told me if you put items on your wedding list and no-one buys it, you get a discount if you (ie the bride) then buy it yourself. This was explained by a colleague who wanted everyone to know that was the only reason that the latest TV set was on her list.
Maybe your cousin had the same idea?

DD's partner wants a cordless vacuum and a steam mop.

Such wonderful domesticity from a 23 year old Grin

My girl wanted a typewriter when she was five (10 now) - how many 21st century kids even know what a typewriter is! (she would quite like an Enigma Machine now).

There are Enigma Machine kits available.

DonaldDucksTowel · 23/12/2018 21:51

LittleScottieDog I would’ve loved that as a little girl Grin

This thread is nothing like I was expecting.

My dad always has a long list of stuff he wants, nothing less than £50. He gets what he wants but hardly ever reciprocates - he’s the type to buy a red jumper in the wrong size because it was on sale when you’d asked for a red t-shirt.

Lemontwist · 23/12/2018 22:15

A couple of years ago when my DS was about 3 the only thing he wanted was a backscratcher. I have no idea where he'd even seen one but he was delighted when it turned up in his stocking Xmas Grin

@bookmum08 my friend's DS recently asked for a typewriter. She had a hell of a time trying to find one!

ColdCottage · 23/12/2018 22:35

A cloud - I think that's my favourite so far! ☁️

Aged 3 with a week old sister someone asked ds what he wanted for Christmas on the 23rd (why would you do that!!??? Presents had been bought and wrapped for weeks)
Thank goodness he said...... Biscuits of my own

Phew! Of course he got them Xmas Grin

bookmum08 · 23/12/2018 22:40

We did find a plastic Barbie typewriter. It was a bit rubbish. Lemontwist tell your friend to look in secondhand collectables/antique places for the typewriter. I saw one today that was a shabby old thing from circa 1930s. It was pretty cool (for an really old thing).

TheRealJoseph maybe I will get the Enigma Machine for her next birthday. She wants a phone - an Enigma Machine instead would be a massive surprise!!

bullyingadvice2017 · 23/12/2018 22:43

Ds is 6. Cheese

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 23/12/2018 22:47

DS asked his grandparents for a DNA test. Luckily he isn't suspicious about his parentage, he just wants to find out his heritage and if he has any more family he doesn't know about. My parents have got him an Ancestry one.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 23/12/2018 22:49

Dd (2) wants a crocodile Confused

bananamonkey · 23/12/2018 22:51

DD (2) asked for a blue cup. That child already has more cups than I know what to do with 🤷🏻‍♀️

Magicstar1 · 23/12/2018 22:58

A few years ago FIL asked for a walking stick made from a bulls penis Hmm
I managed to track it down and get him one Grin

When dd was 2 she wanted "yellow", she wouldn't elaborate and that was the only thing she asked for.

BlackeyedPetitsPois · 23/12/2018 23:01

My just turned 3 year old dd told me today that she would like a “warm towel” for her Christmas present Grin

SimplySteve · 23/12/2018 23:03

My parents wanted a daughter for Christmas. Then I popped out on Boxing Day. Cue my mother, "I missed my Christmas dinner for THAT". Repeated every year.

DS once wanted a, real, F1 car. DS requested, multiple times, a live unicorn...

katseyes7 · 23/12/2018 23:05

LittleScottieDog l had one of those, and l loved it!

TheRealJoseph · 24/12/2018 00:19

Go for the Enigma Machine instead of the phone. You never know, it might lead her into job avenues that neither of you might not consider.

ColdCottage · 24/12/2018 00:26

Has anyone had any outrageous requests from friends or relatives? There must be some corkers out there.

I always say the only thing I want is a holiday to Mauritius but that's always said in jest (with a bit of wishful thinking 😂)

DS (5) wanted one of these that he'd seen on holiday at an aquarium. Was so delighted I got him 3 (in case two broke)!
He's now 9 and wants all the lego in the world - how I miss those days.. sob.
