...is there any way of checking before it arrives whether everything I ordered will be in stock and delivered?

I’ve a feeling there’ll be lots missing so the earlier I know the better 🤞

When we shop with Asda they send an email saying what's been substituted. So maybe check your email or log on to Tesco and see?

GooodMythicalMorning · 22/12/2018 12:43

No, just the list when it arrives. My iceland one today the puddings were missing but the 12pk of stuffing balls were subbed for 20pk. There were a few other things like dips that didnt turn up either.

quietmoon · 22/12/2018 12:45

I had a Tesco delivery last night. Most of what I ordered was there. Minus a chocolate cake and some veg. The substitutions weren't great but they'll do. Only Asda tell you beforehand what they had to sub etc

LaurieFairyCake · 22/12/2018 12:47

Ocado tell you beforehand too - a few hours usually when they've packed it.

Peridot1 · 22/12/2018 12:48

Sainsbury’s tell you too. I got an email before my delivery arrived.

My sub item was cotton wool pads. Had to have
Fairtrade ones. Which I would probably have ordered if I’d spotted them anyway!

TrashPanda · 22/12/2018 12:49

I had a delivery from Tesco this morning. Only 1 sub, 2 600g nets of easy peelers instead of 1 1.5kg net. The pre-order festive Yule log had a use by of 24th which the delivery driver said was a bit crap. Refunded and left it with me. Trifle, cheesecake and cream all had good dates. I'm on pudding duty on the day.

I looked last night and they told me they had removed the Christmas crackers and they weren't going to be substituted! I'm not bothered but kids will be.

I had a couple of substitutions this morning. Extra pigs in blankets for same price. And chestnuts I had to prepare instead of read prepared.

bakingdemon · 22/12/2018 12:52

Our driver was outside at 0645 so my husband went down to meet him (slot was 7-8). We had everything we'd ordered, was pretty pleased with it.

WhatHaveIFound · 22/12/2018 12:52

Ocado texted me this morning to say there were two items not available (not vital) and two substitution. Not too bad for a Christmas shop.

frogsbreath · 22/12/2018 12:59

On Asda's online grocery app you can log in to see the delivery note once it's out for delivery. To check what's subbed or unavailable.

We had delivery yesterday and there were no substitutions but there were lots missing including all the fresh meats! They have refunded but means I need to go to the supermarket and butcher today-HmmConfused

Nanasueathome · 22/12/2018 13:14

Waitrose always email the delivery note beforehand too

southnownorth · 22/12/2018 13:16

Tesco dont let you know before hand like the others so just a case of wait and see.

I just had mine from Tesco. Few subs and short life dates, but not bad overall.

Hitthelights · 22/12/2018 13:17

Morrisons also advise in advance of any subs.

OkToday · 22/12/2018 13:24

Waitrose also email and text substitution before delivery. Had our Christmas shop delivered 9am this morning only had one substitution. I ordered the Christmas cheeses individually as I didn't see they sold them in a pack of six, so I got 6 packs of 6 for the same price as the 6 individual cheeses. I will keep 2 and donate the other four to the food bank if they will take them, all cheese is individually wrapped in wax with labels so hopefully they do if not I will offer them to family.

Rowgtfc72 · 22/12/2018 13:38

Just done tesco click and collect.
Substituted Crumpets and gravy. Sent me posh granules in a jar.
No potato salad or coleslaw though.
Wouldn't let me order anything vaguely christmassy online though so we nipped in last night to find no honey roast parsnips and the last cream filled yule log with a date of 22nd Dec.

TheNativityDonkey · 22/12/2018 13:51

Ive never got on with online supermarket shopping so would never use it for Xmas.
The risk of being left without something that's a MUST (in our house) is too great. I always have issues with dates on stuff being so short etc. If I then found I needed to do to the shop anyway for the few missing items I would also be wanting better dates on my already delivered food. I only say this because 3 different supermarkets sent me a weeks worth of shopping with the same 2 dates on the whole lot!
I always think online grocery shopping has so much potential. In theory the fact you have booked and ordered your food weeks ago when online slots were issued Should mean your food items should be ordered in for you and not some staff member running around with everyone else trying to fill the trolley with whatever is left on the shelf.
6am in Asda this morning I was turning my nose up at the veg only to see the online shoppers just grabbing stuff off the top of the pile (No checking it for quality or reaching to the bottm/back for a better date) and popping it in the crates.
That said friends swear by online shopping. It just seems to be me that has problems. Perhaps I'm too fussy.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/12/2018 13:57

Three minor substitutions on the Tesco order that arrived this lunchtime - none of them important or problematic. I do wish that Tesco did what Sainsburys and Asda do, and emailed any substitutions/items unavailable, in advance, but that is a pretty minor gripe, to be honest.

missnevermind · 22/12/2018 14:02

One of the few subs on my Tesco order was a finest Christmas pudding instead of a basic one. 😄

But the cheap Tesco baileys was replaced with sherry 😂

Alwaysthebountyleft · 22/12/2018 14:31

Well, it’s coming between 3-4 so I’ll let you know how I get on...

It’s been! 40 minutes early and it’s not been bad at all!

Subs were parsnip, carrots and leeks - I’d ordered loose and they’ve sent prepackaged. Horseradish was swapped for hot horseradish, standard breadsticks for a nice posh Italian brand, standard coleslaw for finest chunky coleslaw, finest stuffing balls for standard stuffing balls, mini bottles of lemonade for cans of lemonade and the Xmas dessert which was a finest salted caramel cheesecake for a finest Belgian chocolate Christmas cracker which is a huge choc dessert and looks lovely!
No potato salad so that’s all that was missing so I’m really happy - especially as they’ve refunded me £9 too!

Tesco have upped their game I fancy, theve obviously told the pickers to make sure they sub up and sub sensibly. Well done Tesco!
