Chicken pox - best remedies?

sambasam · 21/12/2018 19:08

I think my 2 yr old is just starting, spots are springing up. We have real problems with him scratching a lot anyway so any advice on best remedy? Also do children normally get a fever etc before the spots have started as he has been ok so far. Guessing I may have to cancel Christmas plans too as relatives with children who haven’t had it may want to avoid us boo

Avoid ibuprofen go google. Use calpol, try to keep cool. If it looks as if any of the spots have turned really nasty, GP.

Dab calamine lotion on the spots.

Watching as in the same boat with DS2. Great timing!

My dc got it when they were 9 months and 3. Both had fevers with CP, but not really beforehand. I found poxclin Poxclin very soothing. It’s a mousse, so you can dab it on sore skin without having to touch it.

Colloidal oatmeal baths. All that involves is shoving some oats in a blender until they're powdery, and putting them bath water. It's very soothing for upset skin.

Porridge oats in a sock- tie the sock. Put in the bath with your child- will help sooth the itching

Poxclin. Not cheap, but it had actual magical powers when my kids had CP.

I agree with the recommendations for Poxclin and oat baths. I also gave mine Piriton which seemed to help with the itching.
