Am thinking of getting one as an additional part of Christmas gifts. I m a tech Luddite though, I've only just joined Spotify :-)

We have both and google is easier to set up and use, I think. The Echo needs the app really to be very useful, and google just gets going straight out of the box.

Spotify is (I think!) an app that plays music. There are 2 versions: free (complete with adverts) and £9.99/mth.
Spotify doesn't have every song in its library but is pretty good.

You can save songs to a playlist and on the free version, they play in a random order.

Spotify is very popular these days. It's for listening to music on your phone/tv/iPad and so on. It has a much bigger library of music than Amazon Music or Apple Music.

Spotify lets you download playlists/albums to your phone so you can listen even if you have no reception or wifi.

We have the £15/month family subscription which allows 6 people to listen to different songs simultaneously (and create their own playlists). You're supposed to reside at the same address but they don't check - so you can split the cost with friends if you wish. This is a bit like how many people share their Netflix accounts with grandparents and so on.
