So I'm feeling low depressed and shitty. My lovley group of friends decided I'm not worth their time on a Friday when I need some friendly support, brilliant. So my question is what do u do when u are feeling depressed or low or blue to cheer yourself up? Really need to lift this mood and any suggestions would be nice x

Exercise, go to local leisure centre and do a class.

sprinkleofsunshine · 07/12/2018 21:29

Watch my favourite tv, eat my favourite food, get cosy in front of the fire, lie in bed and read/watch tv.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 07/12/2018 21:32

I'm feeling horrific this week so am mostly posting to steal ideas.
Tonight I have on my comfiest clothes and am planning on going to bed very shortly. Some days you're just better cutting your losses...

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 07/12/2018 21:33

Pinterest for reassuring and encouraging quotes and lists.

fairycakesarefr33 · 07/12/2018 21:33

Put some good music on and remind myself that this mood is temporary and will pass, even though it doesn't feel like it at the time. Sorry you are feeling down Flowers

Pixie2015 · 07/12/2018 21:33

Do my own pedicure and manicure then read a magazine and watch tat on tv x

Helpmemyhairisterrible · 07/12/2018 21:38

It's not you, it's them. A long, hot shower is always a good place to marinate your problems. A nice meal or a takeaway? Something indulgent or comforting, even if it's just eggy bread. Rick Stein on iPlayer in bed followed by a radio 4 drama through headphones and sleep. Hope you'll be ok. Self care all the way!

AimlesslyPurposeful · 07/12/2018 21:44

Getting out of the house helps. Just the change of scenery helps to give your mind something else to focus on.

A walk when the weather permits, taking a book to a coffee shop and having a quiet hour to yourself to read or people watch. Sometimes a distraction helps.

Ohyesiam · 07/12/2018 21:47

Tidying always helps( I know that might make me sound a bit odd ...)
I have. Deepak Cjopra app with some guided breathing stuff and that always pulls me out ofodd moods.
Getting out and about .

Good decisions - a nice long walk or funny animal videos on YouTube

Bad decisions - prosecco

FoxInForrest · 07/12/2018 21:48

Starr upping the self care (essential oils in the shower as advised on the witches thread had been a godsend). Also watching YouTube channels of motivated upliftng people in the morning - it is infectious even if I don't do anything they advise; it's their energy that does it for me - like having a pep talk each morning

FissionChips · 07/12/2018 21:50

I troll the trolls on FWR.

RiddleyW · 07/12/2018 21:52

I’m feeling shitty. I watched some Christmas specials with a small martini and some chocolate. Now in bed feeling a bit better.

Similar to you but it’s family who’ve left me down.

incallthebloodytime · 07/12/2018 21:52

I mumsnet... for distraction really

Greensleeves · 07/12/2018 21:53

I make stuff (art, jewellery, writing, sugarcraft). My friends know I'm really in the shit when my productivity shoots up. I sell some of the stuff I make now and finished my first novel during last year's post-christmas mental health crisis, so it's win win [gallows humour]

Getting out of the house and gentle exercise do help, but sometimes it's just too hard. If it's too hard, berating yourself for not being able to do it is going to make things worse, so set little goals that are achievable (have a shower, tidy one room, even make a cup of tea and a sandwich).

Above all, remember that it passes. Flowers

elQuintoConyo · 07/12/2018 21:59

Shower, get dressed and head out with the dog she always lifts my spirits.

If i curl up on the sofa with trash tv or go to bed with hot chocolate and my phone, i actually feel even worse.

Like Greensleeves i make stuff to help focus my mind somewhere else. I have just started a felt Star Wars mobile for my friend's baby's room, so i am throwing myself into that.

Sometimes it's all i can do to sit eating biscuits and watching the boats.

Be kind to yourself Flowers

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/12/2018 22:11

Before this year I’d eat crap food and wallow, but now I go for a run. It’s changed my life.

Babdoc · 07/12/2018 22:21

I give it to God in prayer and ask for support to carry me through until I feel better. It always helps to remember that you are loved unconditionally by God, regardless of however many of your friends and family let you down.
Sitting quietly and praying for yourself and others, then letting the peace of God wash over you in comfort and healing is very soothing.
And if that’s not enough, there’s always chocolate and alcohol...!
Hope you soon feel happier, OP.
I will put you in my prayers tonight too, if you would like.

jessstan2 · 07/12/2018 22:24

Sleep if I can.

GameofPhones · 07/12/2018 22:33

Buy yourself a present. Put on some happy upbeat music.

JustHereForThePooStories · 07/12/2018 22:37

Beach!

Wrap up, headphones on to listen to something shouty on Spotify (Jagged Little Pill is my default), and comb for seaglass.

KnittingSister · 07/12/2018 22:46

Walk. Walk and then walk further. And then take a shower.Flowers

northernstars · 07/12/2018 22:48

I know this won't help you now but before I got my bipolar under control I kept a list of things I knew would make me feel better and added to it over time. Once I was in a depression and couldn't think or if I felt let down, I would root out the list and pick things off it.

carrie74 · 07/12/2018 22:48

Some kind of exercise (just a walk is fine) is the best, but quite hard to motivate when down. Achieving something is a big help (something on the to do list that's been hanging around a while).

OhioOhioOhio · 07/12/2018 22:50

A bath.

New pjs.

Clean. Or just collapse in a heap and accept the chaos.
