Unreported World - any one watched it?

Young girls and women in Mauritania being forced to eat a huge amount of calories. To make them fat, because in their culture, fat is beautiful.

Quite an uncomfortable watch, and one which turns our Western ideas of what is attractive on its head.

But the base line is the same - women suffering to conform to imposed ideals.

Yes I did. Found it very hard to watch. The reporter couldn’t hack that amount of food for a day. The girl who was told to go be sick so she could come back and continue eating. Poor poor things. It is absolutely abuse. As the reporter says we are surrounded by images of the ideal woman but we have a choice whether we conform to those. These children have no choice whatsoever.

I did, it made everything feel so angry about expectations of conforming to perceived standards of beauty.

I would like to know who sets these standards. Is it the women themselves? I'm not sure Sad

Patriarchy in action. The women and girls have no economic power, earning ability or independence.
Their sole “value” is as breeding stock. Hence they need to look sleek fat and prosperous as s good marriage prospect, to please the local male taste in female flesh.
It’s why we need feminism.
