Is anyone else finding the Centenary commemorations very moving?

Our local secondary put on a play which was so moving. All I could think was that the boys were more or less the same age as the boys who would have been off to war.

I can remember my grandparents talking about the war and it seemed recent, yet now it seems so far away.

Yes I do! All the villages around us have really gone to town and knitted poppies and created the most wonderful displays. They have even knitted purple poppies and decorated horse sculptures with them to also honour the horses who gave their lives. I have been involved in a few concerts and it has been really moving.

We’re not really church goers, but went yesterday as the kids were required to go as part of scouts.

The vicar did a roll call of the dead. There must have been about 4 dozen names on this list, and they would have been just from that church which would have held 250/300 people at best. Very, very moving.

It’s been very moving to see how the country have marked this, from the poppies four years ago, to the sand portraits, and Peter Jackson’s documentary on Sunday. It was heartbreaking to watch.
