when was your date agreed - maternal request c section

I want an elective c section, my choice, after a previous traumatic delivery and birth injury.
I have seen the registrar at the consultants clinic. Explained my reasons, Told them I knew the risks, quoted nice guidelines at them etc.

No one will agree anything officially to schedule a c section at the moment and I have to go back at 35 weeks!

I don’t know if they will agree it then, or if they will say come back again even later. But this is still three months away to my 35 weeks appointment.

My anxiety is just starting to go up a bit as my pregnancy is progressing and I’m getting bigger, and thinking about the fact they could potentially refuse me.

If you have had an elective c section for maternal request, when were you agreed it? And do you think the hospital are being unfair by making me wait, or I don’t know if this is pretty standard?
I just feel like if they do say no, it isn’t giving me much time to find another hospital.
Thanks.

Thank you.
@Penny31 and @Creas35 did they formally agree it in writing at 16/20 weeks or was it just a sort of head nod?
I wish that’s what they had done for me, said yes you definitely can have it, the appointment at 35 weeks is just a formality. But I worry if it will be a case of them trying to put me off again at 35 weeks.
Or the could say come back at 37 weeks or something else equally as frustrating!

Thanks @thelastshitzu, did you have appointments before the 37 weeks where they spoke about it but wouldn’t agree?
It just seems so late to know what is happening!
Glad you got sorted though.

I requested my date at the 12 week scan. It fit in with the hospital so was booked for then.

I was given the date of my c section at the 12 week scan and it’s on my maternity notes. The consoltant did say if I went into labour early and was higher than 5cm dialated would I try natural and I said yes. You just have to be firm with them and also be rude if necessary I was kept waiting for ages at the hospital so was in a foul mood so they probably didn’t want to deal with me that much so it was all done quickly.

With my second they agreed from the first meeting with the consultant which was when I had my first scan. The consultant asked me what I wanted to discuss and then breathed a sigh of relief and said "I was hoping you'd say that" ( I had an emergency section and I have a long term medical condition and I'm married to a dr so Sod's law it wouldn't go smoothly none of which is automatic for a section but made labour less attractive for me and the medical team)

However they only set the date at 35 weeks and that was for 39wks, they then brought it forward and I had him at 37wks.

With my first they left it open and said we would make a decision at 37wks but my waters broke at 36 was and I had him by emergency section on the day I was supposed to be deciding if I was having a section or not 🙄

It was fairly flexible even at the later stages

Mine were electives due to previous sections so maybe slightly different. I can't remember with DC2 but with DC3 I had an appointment about 35 weeks and they just said "right, go and book the appointment, any day from xx" (2 weeks before due date). I went and they booked the first free date, which was about 39 weeks as they were so busy. (Oddly enough though it turned out I was the only one they did that day . . . which was funny as for superstitious reasons I don't think many people would have wanted the day before or the day after the DS's birthday.)

I had my section signed off at my 16 week appointment then booked when I had my 36 week appointment with the consultant. Was carried out when I was 39+2.

My second baby was elective c section after very difficult first birth.

I was treated badly, had to see head midwife, twho then repeatedly just would not come to meetings. Her assistant at the last one literally said'Mrs Smith' has left the building.

At the last one I kicked off, crying and asked to make a formal complaint. They finally signed me off. I was 38 weeks and 2 days.

I really hope you have a smoother time of it.

Mine was booked around 35 weeks, for when I was 39+1, however the day before I was scheduled they rang and moved it to a day later which was really frustrating!

mintich · 21/10/2018 17:57

My date was agreed at 36 weeks, c section carried out at 39 weeks

LaPufalina · 21/10/2018 18:06

My date was agreed at 34 weeks, and had my section at 39+1

SharkSave · 21/10/2018 18:43

Request agreed at 16 weeks, date given at 32 (or 34, can't remember!) weeks.
I went into suspected early labour at 35 weeks and I made it absolutely clear I would not go for a vaginal delivery in any circumstances. It was written very big on my notes after that!

whiskersonkittens01 · 21/10/2018 19:10

This must just depend on individual trusts I think.
But if some can do it, and give people peace of mind, (or the clarity that they need to go elsewhere if the consultant decides they won’t agree), early in their pregnancy, I don’t see why they can’t all do the same.
It’s a strange business. But I definitely get the feeling they are trying to stall me one way or the other, which I feel is unfair in any circumstance, but particularly given my first experience.

I don’t think I got anything in writing, just the appointment at 36 weeks which they said was to give me the section date and talk through the procedure
