Calling techy iPhone people

Had phone (iPhone SE) almost 2 years. Still in good working order mostly. But I've NEVER updated the OS.

Initially as that OS was having a lot of problems at the time and I really couldn't be arsed, but I'm now reaching a point some of my apps aren't supported by the version I'm using -

9.3.4

Every day I get a "reminder" to update and every day I cancel.

But I'm thinking with a heavy heart and twisty stomach I'm gonna have to...

Thing is I have extreme anxiety and I'm basically on my phone all the time when I'm awake. Very anxiety inducing not to be AND I don't sleep well (never have all my life) and when I really can't sleep I go on phone.

So I'm wanting to know is there a quick way to update? If not how long does it take? I remember from previous phone it taking bloody hours!

Personally I wish they'd (app and phone designers) not fix what ain't broken!

So any tips?

I don't even know if I have an iCloud account? How do I check this?

Re backup, update then delete backup how do I do this?

Go to iCloud.com and enter your app/Apple store details. If they don’t work, you likely don’t have an iCloud account.
It’s 100% in your best interests to back up in the cloud. Yes, as you mentioned on the previous page, it is hackable. But in the case of celebrities, etc, when hackers are aiming for specific data and details. With respect, it’s highly unlikely that anyone would want to try and hack you.
If you have anxiety from the idea of being away from your phone, then back up and don’t delete. If something were to happen to the handset and it had to be replaced, you’d have no way of accessing any of your game data, etc.

Ok now I'm confused. Revisiting this thread as another issue I was told to use a different app but the app requires newer OS so I'm basically reaching the point where I NEED to update.

So looked at thread again, went to backup stuff on phone - according to my settings I have automatic backup switched on BUT it's constantly telling me as I said that I haven't backed up for 1000's of days and it's also saying last time I backed up was March last year!!

So if auto backup is on why hasn't it been doing it? (I know I've misunderstood something I'm just not sure at which stage)

And I'm going to have to reset password I think for iCloud any tips on setting a high security one?

I don't have same password for everything but I suspect I don't make it as hard as I could but I also need to remember it (meds affect memory).
