Hello....I’m embarking on my second marriage..hurrah! ❤️ and currently I have the same surname as my 2 children from my first marriage ...just interested in what people do second time around. Do you take surname of second husband yourself and kids still have their existing surname..is this an issue when travelling abroad? Double barrel an option? Not sure of legality around this...is having a different surname to your children an issue?
I don’t really want to change kids surname as we all have a good relationship with their Dad.
Any advice please. Xx

Do you want to change your name? You can’t chsnge your DC names without their dad’s permission and it would be wrong anyway.

Would your husband to be change his name to yours?

I did this and have double barrelled with my DHs surname. When I’ve mentioned it online many people have thought it weird to not get rid of the surname I got on marrying my Xh but I’d had it most of my adult life.
Not had the issue with travelling abroad as my old passport doesn’t run out for a fe years so haven’t changed it

I don’t really mind to be honest in terms of changing my name. And 2nd DH doesn’t mind either..But would like to add 2nd husbands name to me somehow...prob double barrel then? It was the travelling with my kids I was concerned about..with different surnames.

I've got children with their dads surname. I took my DH surname. Never a problem.

Wouldn't want to double barrel it for any of us.

It's fine. It's pretty common to have different surnames in one family now anyway.

Wrybread · 05/10/2018 23:14

We're just keeping our own surnames.

flowerythorns · 05/10/2018 23:15

Oh and when we've travelled I've taken copies of birth certificates and marriage certificate.

No problems so far.

Will your new dh also double barrel his name if you double barrel yours?

Congratulations by the way!

Off to bed DelBoy, you're clearly overtired and stroppy.

It’s the middle of the day where I live but thanks 🥄

To be fair I did report my post before you commented, don’t know what came over me Blush
