I find Tom Swarbrick has a pleasant and intelligent manner. I'm not so keen on Nick Abbot, and I don't understand the appeal of the lengthy pauses and strange noises. They don't add anything I think. I sometimes listen to a bit of Steve Allen and he's strange! I often wonder if he works off a script or makes it all up as he goes along.

I like Lucy Beresford, Andrew Castle, Bev Turner and Iain Dale

Gohackyourself · 06/10/2018 06:34

Steve Abbott and those stupids honks, squeaks etc reminds me of a circus clown , he also always seems to attract similar nutty callers :-) Ian dale , I find is very grating too but I guess he’s fair.
Nick Ferrari, Nigel farage and Shelia fogarty are all excellent ( although Sheila’s been loosing her cool about Tory/labour brexit).

I just wish they wouldn’t go on an on about brexit, use other topics.Brexit is bad enough in newspapers and tv, I like the radio to be enlightening.

My favourites are Steve Allen and Matt Stadlen. Have listened to Steve through all the ups and downs of his very interesting life. Matt Stadlen has a gentle voice, ideally would make the perfect next door neighbour; Dislike Nick Abbot all those squeaks, bangs and long pauses not sure what all that means

Oops meant nick Abbott Grin the circus clown !

WillaDapeepul · 06/10/2018 08:41

DP and I were listening to LBC in the car the other morning and wondering who the hell listens to Steve Allen and actually enjoys him...now I know. He's a snide, misogynistic little man.

I adore Eddie Mair and always used to listen to PM but not sure he's going to last long on LBC.

J O'B does love the sound of his own voice and enjoys humiliating his callers in a way that gets on my nerves at times, but to be honest many of his callers do walk straight into it.

I'm a world away from Iain Dale, politics-wise, but he is clearly a smart, thoughtful man.

Andrew Castle, Ferrari and Farage...ugh. Cannot bear them.

RhythmStix · 06/10/2018 08:46

I really like Iain Dale as well although I don't really see eye to eye politically. he is very sharp, incisive and good at interviews. he is excellent at calling people out on prejudices and so on.

I'm developing an almost pathological dislike of James O'B - sooo arrogant and conceited. he thinks he is so clever and keeps mixing his metaphors which makes him look like a dick. he is very dismissive and spiteful to callers who don't agree with him which makes him look like a bullying twat.

Love Maajid (fancy him too ....so hot!) and I also like Tom Swarbrick. Sheila Fogarty is ok but a bit dull.

Ferrari is an absolute hoot. So funny! Love him even though he's a big Tory!

Lottapianos · 06/10/2018 08:47

'wondering who the hell listens to Steve Allen and actually enjoys him...now I know. He's a snide, misogynistic little man.'

Same here! No idea who actually enjoyed listening to his nasty drivel every morning

I really enjoy Shelagh Fogarty, and love Nick Abbott on weekends. I enjoy James O'Brien but certainly don't like him. He's ridiculously smug and self absorbed, but very entertaining, and it's fun listening to him take Brexiteers apart.

SillySallySingsSongs · 06/10/2018 09:00

You always know when Ferrari has had a ridiculous caller as he always says bye to them with 'well it's a view' Grin

batshite1 · 06/10/2018 09:04

Oh god, James OB drives me mad. Agree with him on lots of things but he’s so pompous & sanctimonious, what a dick.

batshite1 · 06/10/2018 09:07

I do enjoy Nick Ferrari although different political views & Nick Abbot has made me chuckle.

formerbabe · 06/10/2018 09:11

I like Nick Ferrari and James O'Brien. I don't always agree with what they say but I find them the most engaging to listen to.

I'm not a fan of Shelagh Fogarty...I used to prefer listening to Julia Hartley-Brewer. Again, because I found her engaging to listen to.

Love Steve Allen show in the mornings but I'm rarely awake early enough.

Lottapianos · 06/10/2018 09:47

'You always know when Ferrari has had a ridiculous caller as he always says bye to them with 'well it's a view'

Grin yes, and if they've been particularly unhinged (which is often), he tells them to 'maybe try the decaf tomorrow' GrinGrin

Ferrari is objectionable in many ways but he can be very funny

goingtotown · 06/10/2018 10:12

Nick Farrari talks too fast, I like him though.

releasethehounds · 06/10/2018 10:21

LOVE Nick Abbot and his sense of humour. It helps we have similar views on most things. Also like James O'Brian but don't get to listen to him much because I'm at work. Also like Steve Allen as a rule.

shartsi · 06/10/2018 10:37

Steve Allen, Nick Ferrari, Iain Dale and Andrew Castle. Hate James O'Brien, he just drones on and on.

Rockbird · 06/10/2018 10:44

Julia HB is revolting and she's a real shit-stirrer on Twitter. Used to love Petrie Hosken and I listen to her wherever I can find her, sometimes on BBC London. I have a soft spot for Steve Allen and utter love for Clivey. Also like Shelagh Fogarty and J O'B. Nick Ferrari makes me want to back my own ears off.

Rockbird · 06/10/2018 10:45

*hack

Lottapianos · 06/10/2018 13:04

Oh I forgot about Petrie Hosken, I used to enjoy her show

shartsi · 06/10/2018 13:10

I liked David Mellor and Ken Livingstone in their day

Dancergirl · 06/10/2018 13:22

Great post.

I've been an LBC listener since I was 13 in 1985 when I used to listen to Philip Hodson's phone in on a Monday night.

Fave all time presenter is Clive Bull. Remember Babs from Bermondsey?

Loved the weekend quizzes with Mike Allen especially the word quiz on a Saturday night. Me and my friends used to phone in!

These days I like Nick Ferrari and Shelagh Fogarty. James OB is a great speaker but can be a bit pompous. Still like listening to him though.

Jonathan12358 · 13/01/2024 13:47

Has Andrew Castle left LBC? He hasn't been on for a few months

teg321 · 16/08/2024 23:52

James O Brien drives me mad. As another said on here I also turn the radio off when he is on and switch it back on when he has finished talking to himself. Nick Abbott is great, listen every week end and if you get it (nothing too serious folks) he really does put a show on. Some of his callers are regulars and you will not hear it anywhere else but on those weekend shows. The bloke who is now on during weekday evenings is not very good, a bit young for the role in my opinion. Then again I am an old git...

Dancergirl · 17/08/2024 16:50

I like Tom Swarbrick too.

JockTamsonsBairns · 17/08/2024 18:19

I love James O'Brien and Shelagh Fogerty. Tom Swarbrick has really grown on me too.
Also listen to Nick Ferrari - I don't tend to agree with his views, but he's an excellent broadcast journalist and interviewer.
I enjoy Rachel Johnson too.

Can't be doing with Iain Dale or Nick Abbot.
