Well, I'm thoroughly enjoying the "unconnected words" thread and wanted more of the same! So shall we write a story? Everyone contributes a line - or even two if you're so inclined?

I'll start...

A pale glow appeared on the horizon, and in her drunken state Margot wondered if this was finally it.

To say the policemen were surprised at being ushered in by a uniformed Navy Officer who reeked of a distillery, cast wanton looks in the direction of an irate neighbour, stumbled past a cat with a mouthful of daffodils and was barely concealing a naked corpse just visible through the bedroom's open door was an understatement!

She ushered them into the kitchen and discretely closed the bedroom door, saying "my friend in there is rehearsing for a part in a play, so lets leave her to it". Brian then came into the room still whinging about the cat.
