Non medical opinion but have experienced 5 cases of HFM and 2 of chicken pox with DC in recent years my first thought was also that it's most likely HFM. It presents differently every time IME. First time we also assumed chicken pox. It can be nasty but it can also be mild as their are loads of versions of the virus.

Be warned it's very contagious to you as well, via all bodily fluids, that's why babies and toddlers get it I think as they chew same toys, and especially nappies as virus sheds in their poo for weeks after. DH and I both got it too the first time and I can confirm that it feels horrid, like glass stuck in fingertips and under toes.

Hope it's just a mild case x

Both of mine had HFM and were hardly poorly at all. So the severity can vary. Hopefully he will be feeling better soon.

Not medical but I've had experience of both and I would say hfm too.
With my children the first spots were in the nappy area and lots on the creases of legs and arms.
It's one of those that looks hideous but they should be fine with calpol and nurofen.

I wouldn’t worry too much, it’s very common! Most children get it at home point.
