Pierced ears- when and where?

DD2 has started asking to have her ears pierced. She's 10, 11 in December.

I just wondered what age other people had pierced ears. I had thought not until 12-13 but wanted to see whether I was in sync with others. She is responsible and would be fine doing the cleaning etc.

Where would you recommend? She's talking about Claire's but that gives me the absolute willies as the assistants in our local one can barely work the till, never mind a piercing gun. Pharmacist? Specialist piercing place?

Tilly I agree I guess I paraphrased it but I think we agree on the point that not only do you need to get a reputable person using a sterlised needle but you need to watch what you are putting in your ears. At the moment for us its platinum or titanium only - none of the cheap stuff that can be just as problematic

I have the same - cant wear earrings at all.

For me I went with slightly earlier age so I could be more in charge. And touch wood a year later its fine - she may only have the one pair of titanium earrings with a pink jewel but the piercing is fine and healed very well. We are thinking of branching into another pair of titanium ones but there is no rush
