Dunnett fans - pilot script for TV adaptation is GO!

There’s only a short quote for now - more in upcoming Whispering Gallery for those of us who subscribe.
“My son is not very complicated, Mariotta. It’s just all surface and glitter and acting"
What I can tell from this is that there is a high chance of them sticking closely to the dialogue in the book.

I know some Dunnett fans are unimpressed at the thought of TV messing with Lymond, but personally I’m thrilled if this happens; I want more people to discover her. No, the TV show won’t match what’s in my head, but I’ll view it as a separate entity.

I am laying awake some night worrying who they’ll cast as Lymond, though. Arrgh!

Ooh! How interesting. I can't see how they could ever hope to capture the full complexity of the books but I would watch it out of sheer fascination. There is some stuff that makes GoT look tame though....

Who to play Lymond or indeed you or Sybilla. So many fabulous characters that have to be absolutely right.

I’m presuming they’ll age “me” up a bit, as is generally the way for TV, but who knows. (Though lately I’ve come to the slightly depression realisation that I have much more in common with Kate than Philippa).

Do you have a picture in your head of characters when you read? I showed my kids Princess Bride recently, and realised that the Lymond I see resembles Cary Elwes. Probably inspired by that Lady Jane film he was in, I think. I’d have watched that a few years before first reading GoK.

Had they done this years ago, then Anthony Andrews for Lymond, and Charles Dance for Gabriel. I always envisaged the lady who played Helen in Neighbours way back in the 80s as Sybilla, but maybe Helen Mirren now? Richard Armitage as Jerrot or Richard Culter? Lily Cole as Philippa or Christian Stewart?

Ooh, Rupert Grint as Will Scott the Younger.

Oooh I like lots of those suggestions.

Hmm.. Cary ELwes & Anthony Andrews are both a shade too ...smooth, I think. Lymond has a touch of sharpness to him - much as it pains me to say it, a more medieivalish roughed-upTom Hiddleston-esque type?. I am still pondering him.

Like Rupert Grint as Will Scott Jr and Helen-from-Neighbours as Sybilla.

Phillippa is tough - she needs to start brown and thrush-like but then becomes burnished and bronzed.

I am offering nothing helpful.

Lots of Dunnett fans think “younger, shorter, blonder Hiddleston” apparently. He’s got the brains to carry off the script - it can’t be some dullard. But he’s too old and famous for it anyway.
It will need an actor of extraordinary range to really show off what we love about Lymond.
