So me and my husband have 3 children altogether- 2 each. My eldest with my ex, his eldest with his ex and a child together. We're not millionaires however our families wealth comes from me and my side of the family including the house we live in. With this in mind should we leave our estate equally between all 3 children or should my 2 have greater shares due to the origin of the money?

I think if the SC family will take charge of their share and mishandle it you should just make provision for your two DC. You could leave them a token legacy.

One possibility:
You each have 2 kids. So it gets divided 4 ways.
One part from you to your oldest.
One part from your husband to his oldest.
One part from each of you to the youngest.

That's a different way Dunes and may be a fairer approach...

Will your eldest inherit from your ex?

HollowTalk · 22/08/2018 14:16

If you think your husband isn't going to outlive his elder child's childhood, then he needs to be looking at some way of making good his child support payments after his death. I know it's a really difficult subject but you say your home is secure, but obviously his ex will lose out on those payments and might find things really tough.

I know Hollow it's a thought that I've had for a while now. It's a complicated one as has been said on other threads that only the parents are financially responsible for their own children. Unfortunately his income only covers his current maintenance payments. My eldest will inherit from his dad however due to debts there won't be much to inherit.
