Licking the lid

FaveNumberIs2 · 23/03/2018 22:38

Am I the only person who hates licking (or seeing others licking) yoghurt lids?

It seriously annoys the crap out of me.

(Not sure why, think it might have something to do with once slicing my tongue on an envelope!)

Why are people repulsed? It’s not like anyone else has touched it or is going to touch it. And I have no problem with getting every last bit out of the pot. Not just yogurt but desserts too. Rolo desserts ars so good that I don’t want to waste any!

tigercub50 · 24/03/2018 00:32

Are not ars lol 😂

Muddlingalongalone · 24/03/2018 00:36

Grim - see also drinking milk out of a cereal bowl.
I can live with the knowledge if it as long as I Don't have to watch it.

For me, I think it's the sight and sound of a large, slobbery tongue slurping up yogurt and getting covered in it! Bleugh!

ErrolTheDragon · 24/03/2018 01:10

I usually get big pots of yogurt nowadays, so I use a silicone scraper both the lid and the pot. There's far too much good extra thick yog on a 1 kg pot to waste.

Ski40 · 08/04/2018 12:55

I don't think I've seen anyone do this but I think it would annoy me a bit. Though not as much as the girls in adverts that turn the spoon upside down to lick it clean and make faces or sounds like they are having sex with it 😁

userofthiswebsite · 08/04/2018 12:59

Oh gosh yes, my mum does this, cannot stand it. I say, 'You're not a cat.'

TinaTop · 08/04/2018 13:09

I lick the lid but not in public, only when I'm at home with my immediate family. In front of others I'd scrape it with my spoon. Same with cereal milk - I'd drink it in private but never in front of others. In fact, now that I think about it there are actually a few things that I do in private but would consider bad manners to do in public! Hmm

mimibunz · 08/04/2018 13:11

I hate to see people licking anything!

watfordmummy · 08/04/2018 13:16

This will put me, but I once famously wrote a letter of complaint re the advertising campaign of lick the lid of life!! Find it rude!EnvyEnvy

INXS · 12/04/2018 19:40

I take the lid off then sort of slide it across the tub so the contents come off into the yoghurt inside. Less tongue action!

An older relative of mine used to not only lick the lid and scrape the container, but also wipe her unwashed finger round the tub to get the last bits out. Then lick it. I had to leave the room.

BertrandRussell · 12/04/2018 19:46

I was once very late for work because I licked the foil lid of a yoghurt pot and cut my lip. I bled for ages.

FaveNumberIs2 · 13/04/2018 00:20

@watfordmummy I'm with you!

@INXS eeeeewwww at the finger scraper/licker!

OP posts:
FaveNumberIs2 · 13/04/2018 00:22

@BertrandRussell ouch! I once did that on an envelope.

Twotabbycats · 13/04/2018 00:23

I have seen people stick the whole lid in their mouth 🤢

anon99827 · 13/04/2018 01:28

Apparently (not related) the paper you get at from the fresh tub of butter is to create the pan. News to me!

sheddooropen · 23/04/2018 15:12

Licking the lid is the best bit, heck I even lick the plate at home and sometimes at other family places if it is extra delicious it's a compliment!

IVFbabygirlproudmummy · 14/06/2018 21:38

Normally it has the creamy thick yummy yoghurt on it..... but I guess this could be scrapped off with a spoon? I lick but wouldn't do it in front of people

Bimgy85 · 12/08/2018 21:46

Nope don't lick them anymore I'm too paranoid about tasting gone off dairy or something, always give my yoghurt a good stir before eating also

Dementedswan · 12/08/2018 21:50

Definitely no kicking of the lids or scraping pots in this house....that's the Labradors job. He would give you his best sad stareand take himself off in a huff otherwise.

Bestseller · 12/08/2018 21:53

It's only fairly recently, but when a colleague gave me daggers for it, that I realised everyone doesn't do it.

I was brought up that it was the correct/only way to eat a yogurt - waste not want not
