I was convinced Dr. Seuss was a real (academic) Dr, but I was wrong.

He was real though.

freddiemisagreatshag · 12/02/2013 21:04

No fucking way is he a PROFESSOR LineRunner Shock

What is the world coming to ?

LineRunner · 12/02/2013 21:04

Look at the You Tube link. Professor Brian Cox does a long hair flick.

The lady singer has a nice crochet suit on.

HellesBelles396 · 12/02/2013 21:05

Probably, if Actor Brian Cox wasn't around PBC would just be called Brian Cox but as the johnny-come-lately of the Brian Cox subset of the human population, he needs "professor"ing so that people don't expect him to talk with a Scottish accent or pretend to eat people.

shrinkingnora · 12/02/2013 21:05

ProfessorMavisGrind - don't you mean you feel a bit Briany?

TunipTheVegedude · 12/02/2013 21:05

Dr Seuss wasn't a doctor? Are you sure?

Ponders · 12/02/2013 21:07

I note that PBC is just called BC on the infinite monkey cage webpage

presumably because nobody would ever imagine it could be the other one (even without the photos)?

freddiemisagreatshag · 12/02/2013 21:07

^^ what HellesBelles said

Ponders · 12/02/2013 21:07

Do you reckon Mr. Cox insists on being called Professor.

Bit like Ross from Friends?

Grin
QOD · 12/02/2013 21:08

Ah... S there's a professor Green who isn't a professor but is in a musical thingy?

That's me totally confused then.

I think it's professor Green I thought was a Professor. I didn't know professor plum Cox wasn't professor Green

LineRunner · 12/02/2013 21:09

You don't have to be a Dr to be a Professor but it helps.

Suzieismyname · 12/02/2013 21:10

no, Tunip, Brian May is 'just' a doctor...

I've always assumed that the media refer to him as Professor out of justified deference to the fact that he must be BLOODY CLEVER and is a recognised expert in his field so we should PAY ATTENTION! Like they do with Prof Marcus du Sautoy, Prof Richard Dawkins, Prof Mary Beard et al.

PickledInAPearTree · 12/02/2013 21:10

Erm Brian cox, do you not like Brian cox?

I like his gentle soothing speech when he talks about sand particles of whatever. He looks kind.

MrsRajeshKoothrappali · 12/02/2013 21:11

Is Brian May a doctor too??

How'd he fit that in along with guitar strumming and hair maintenance??

The world gets weirder and weirder.......!!

Confused
weegiemum · 12/02/2013 21:12

Seuss was his middle name. I looked it up and everything. He started using it at college in the US to write for a magazine that he'd been banned from by the college authorities after he was caugh drinking gin.

Mmmnoodlesoup · 12/02/2013 21:12

I really like him. He seems like a kind, quiet, intelligent, inoffensive bloke. Same as Nigel Slater, who most of MN seem to hate too. Bunch of vipers

freddiemisagreatshag · 12/02/2013 21:13

I knew Brian May was a Doctor. And he NEVER EVER EVER gets called Doctor Brian May.

OP posts:
TunipTheVegedude · 12/02/2013 21:16

Brian May left an unfinished physics PhD to be in Queen, then a few years ago he went back and finished his thesis.

LineRunner · 12/02/2013 21:16

Queen met at university when they doing Astrophysics degrees and PhDs and shit.

NotGeoffVader · 12/02/2013 21:18

Just to throw some more confusion into the mix, I though Hannibal Lecter was played by SIR Anthony Hopkins?

There are lots of academics on the TV, most of them don't refer to themselves by their title - e.g., Doctor, Professor, etc. but people introducing them do.

I like Brian Cox. He's clever, funny and unpretentious. Particularly when verbally sparring with Ross Noble on QI.

BTW, I thought rappers were now MC's?

freddiemisagreatshag · 12/02/2013 21:20

Freddie was at art college I think Line

freddiemisagreatshag · 12/02/2013 21:23

I have a confession. It makes the whole thing even worse.

A million billion years ago back when the world was young and I was foolish I did recruitment. For a company which ended up supplying bits to CERN.
