Had three series of ECT (at 19, 21 & 23). Each one saved my life. I feel like it isn’t understood as the extremely effective treatment it is, so AMA and I’ll try and change that.

Were you diagnosed with BP at the time of the ECT? Or was that later?
have you ever had any other diagnosis?
I’m so pleased it had a positive impact for you.

I was originally diagnosed with OCD, then depression, then “agitated” depression, psychotic depression, then treatment resistant depression (I’m not actually sure if those three were diagnoses or just descriptions of what the doctors were seeing) then there was a question about borderline personality disorder on my third admission (mainly because I was being vociferous about some abusive behaviour by ward staff, I think) then they settled on bipolar disorder.

The ECT was all after the OCD diagnosis had been scrapped and before the bipolar disorder diagnosis, when things were all over the place.
