Ama I will answer. I have a spikey profile which meant when taking iq tests (I’ve done several as part of a medical study and as a child as part of my autism diagnosis) I have never been given a number.
This is inspired by the other intelligence thread but not meant as a thread about a thread, more just I thought people would be interested in a sort of the opposite side of the coin way. Edited by MNHQ to remove image

How does your spiky profile play out day to day? I’m assuming this means you are very strong in some areas but have significant difficulties in others.

I have difficulties in a lot of areas, from simple things like day to day normal life stuff, just being able to do stuff in a suitable order or remembering every part of it, even simple things like laundry. I get very flustered/confused easily. Where I excel, I guess and I wouldn’t call it excelling necessarily is in things like pattern recognition but only certain situations. Which isn’t really handy at all in day to day life. Overall it’s definitely a negative thing.

I would suspect the variations in component scores are too great for an overall score to be meaningful.

Why did you measure your IQ?

Jemimapuddleduk · 04/03/2026 19:27

This is the same as my son who is autistic. He had an ed psych assessment recently and she couldn’t gauge IQ as he has a spiky profile!

Why did you measure your IQ?

As a child it was part of my autism diagnosis as an adult it was due to being part of a medical trial
