I have asked people to make their own threads when they are not asking questions but using my thread as an opportunity to vent.
Not beholden at all. I do not like the religion and would never go back to it. I just don't like misinformation

Misinformation according to you.

BoxingHares22 · 30/11/2025 15:12

I wonder how long ago you left and whether you have members still in it. I have three, including an Elder .

StressyMessyJess · 30/11/2025 14:47

Entirely not true

It is true. Whilst they wont category tell members they can't seek outside help and they would never advertise that it's frowned upon to new members or non believers. It very much is a no no. They dont want to bring reproach on Jehovahs name or let it be known that they are not the happiest people on earth.

Yes, you’re absolutely right. the attitude is that leaning on Jehovah is the answer to every problem . Seeking any sort of worldly help is not encouraged. Praying about problems is seen to be the solution, as well as asking for guidance from the Elders. Who are all men.

@StressyMessyJess
I dont think any of us are disagreeing with or calling you out on your opinions. This is your AMA as you keep pointing out.
But when you are giving incorrect facts about a harmful organisation, then the rest of us ex witnesses feel it's our responsibility to correct you. We would hate it if anyone here got the wrong impression about them.

yikesss · 30/11/2025 16:06

I have two JWs due to come to back to my house for a further discussion. Did you ever go door to door? How did it go? Do you have any advice for me ahead of the meet up? This question is for all JW/ex JW who are here with us 🤗

StressyMessyJess · 30/11/2025 16:07

I am not giving out any misinformation at all

Cancel it

Horrace · 30/11/2025 16:28

Cancel it

😂 that made me laugh. I should have added more information on my original post, sorry! I have no intention of becoming a JW, I have my own beliefs. Knowing that, would you still say cancel?

Alwaystired23 · 30/11/2025 16:57

Could you explain norw about the elders please? How do they gey chosen? Do they apply for the role or is it automatic/come with age?

RJnomore1 · 30/11/2025 17:09

Anyone who’s interested is free to Google re the two witness rule, mental health, etc etc. I wouldn’t take some random on the internet at their word either way (I’m including me as a random)

Depends why you have agreed to a visit. They will be very excited to 'return the visit'
You will find them very pleasant and friendly which they genuinely are.
If you are fact finding, I strongly suggest you visit jwfacts.com which is an excellent independent site that will explain many of their doctrines and scandals.
When i say independent, it is run by an ex JW. However, it is very factual. He has worked extremely hard not to include opinion which is very difficult to do as I'm sure you can tell from this thread.
Maybe get some nuggets from there. In particular about the child abuse scandals.
Most of the rank and file dont know anything about it so you can be armed.
I knew nothing of it until years after leaving. I dont thing the OP knows either. Its understandable. Its very much hidden.

Thank you for sharing that, sounds like a really useful resource! I will take a look this evening. I suppose I am "fact finding" yes, but only to understand who I am speaking to a bit more.
Thank you taking the time to answer me aswell

Is Christmas a big problem for JWs, particularly with kids? Say for someone who has a child with another parent who is not JW, how would the JW and the rest of their JW community really feel about a child spending and celebrating Christmas with their other parent?

I’m guessing the child would not be allowed to spend Xmas with the other parent

If the scenario was such that a court had ordered there be contact with the non JW parent every Christmas, I mean.

I don’t think that would happen. Courts can order contact but not for specific celebrations surely.

Titsakimb0 · 01/01/2026 01:11

Yes it can happen
