How bored are you to be online whilst on holiday?

Longnightmoon · 15/08/2025 21:47

how long was the flight? how much did the flight cost? what are you doing there? What do tourists do? What is the weather like? What are the people like? What is the wildlife like? What is you accommodation like? How much does your accommodation cost?

I'm actually very interested

Classic Mumsnet response. Na I still even with the time difference wake up before everyone else. I usually log on for half hour with a coffee in the morning, and then again in the evening when I go to lie on the bed after being out for the day just to have some space to myself for half hour.

Could you imagine living there?

Laiste · 15/08/2025 21:55

How many big spiders have you seen?

🕷️

shellyleppard · 15/08/2025 21:55

Are there massive spiders in the toilet??? How bad was the jet lag

Move22 · 15/08/2025 21:57

Did you stop off en route? And whereabouts in Oz? Also, are you flying via another destination when you go home?

We flew via Doha. Think it was about 7 hours London-Doha and 14 hours Doha-Melbourne.

Flights cost about 1,100 each, a bit less for my son. Can't remember how for him but 3 adults, 1 child 4,600 odd.

Weather in Melbourne was sunny about but varied between 11 and 18 degrees. Cairns was sunny about 28 degrees. Sydney is overcast about 13 degrees.

Australian people generally really friendly. Not really had any bad experiences yet with anyone.

Been doing Airbnbs. Stayed in a penthouse suite in Melbourne with amazing skyline views and kitted out with all mod cons. 80 quid a night two bed. Stayed in a cottage in Cairns with a rainforest garden. Two bed about 90 quid a night. Currently in a apartment in North Sydney for about 100 quid a night. Again two bed. Not so nice this one. Quite basic but great skyline view. Airbnb is definitely the way to go.

Melbourne is very livable. Cairns is lovely but I know the summer extremes would be tough to live there with the heat plus only tourism sort of work there. Sydney seems a bit too hussle bussel for my liking. Could I see myself living here? Maybe Melbourne but I think ultimately I think I would miss friends and family too much, so no.

No. Not seen one spider. Even in Cairns.

Not spiders, but in Cairns the toilet seemed to get attacked by ants every night. There would be hundreds of them under the seat around the toilet rim with a trail of them from the window and down the wall. Seemed to be attracted to the toilet rim 😬

Jet lag, yeah it took me a few days to get over. I found myself keep waking up during the night. Body clock is in place now into our 2nd week though.

We flew via Doha but didn't stop off. Just three hours in the terminal before carrying on the flight to Melbourne. Originally wanted a stop off via Singapore for a few days but travel agent seemed to really bump up the cost for that so we just went via Doha with no stop off. Will be the same arrangement going home too.

How old is your DS? Mine is just under 5 and haven’t done any long flights yet.

Maryqueenofstots · 17/08/2025 08:51

What was the best thing you did in Melbourne? Asks what’s one thing it’s essential to pack?

honeyrider · 30/08/2025 13:50

I was in Melbourne for the Christmas holiday to mid-January visiting my DS. Loved it but it's a long trip. Tasmania was one of the highlights.

Looking forward to reading more about your trip.
