I'm a woman in my late 40s and was diagnosed with ADHD about six months ago and have been taking medication for four months. If you'd like to ask anything, please do as I'm happy to share my experience, especially if it helps others Smile

So many people would have these symptoms though. I think half the population must have ADHD.

Edited

Everyone experience these things, yes, but that doesn't make it symptomatic. The impact on your life makes it symptomatic. Does it affect your relationships? To what degree. Does it affect your ability to work, or prospects at work? And so on.

If you still don't understand, imagine if I joined a thread about abdominal cancer and said 'so many people have had a stomach ache. I think half the population must have abdominal cancer.' you wouldn't do that would you? because only an ignorant arsehole would say something like that. But honestly, sometimes I think half the country are ignorant arseholes.

@Whatismypasswordthen I have said it before, ignorance is the most undiagnosed thing on the planet.

@SwordToFlamethrower it can take a long time to process a diagnosis. I soemtimes think I have been wrongly diagnosed too but I know it is not possible.

@SwordToFlamethrower apparently (although this isn't currently as widely recognised as it may be in the future) people with ASD are very likely to have ADHD too, and vice versa. Often the conditions are so well masked or camouflaged they don't necessarily both get picked up, specially as you seem to have two pathways to get diagnosed with both rather than just doing it in one.

This may explain why you feel mis-diagnosed

Thank you so much for this OP. I’ve had a number of people ask me if I’m ADHD and it would make a lot of sense of my life. My therapist is of the “it’s a tiktok phase” school of thought which annoys me and she knows me the best and would be best placed to really support the processing of any diagnosis. I’ve just managed my life so far by hyper focussing on being organised, to the detriment of all else really. When I let one carefully balanced ball drop however, the whole lot comes crashing down and I really struggle to find the motivation to get to that level of super organisation again. I’ve started countless degrees then just dropped out. I was about to drop out of my current one but persevered (I have no idea how) and have just passed my first assignment. A scrape pass but it was submitted, on time and I’m astounded at myself that I did it.
