NC but regular user.

I have a diagnosis of BPD/EUPD. I use the terms interchangeably. I see it mentioned on here and talked about in many contexts and there is a lack of understanding around what having it entails so ask away if you’re curious

I think someone in my family has BPD. They lead a very difficult and dysfunctional life abroad. I really want to encourage this family member to seek proper help, but they have so far refused almost all we have offered and suggested including possible BPD. I understand that refusing or finding “offensive” a diagnosis of BPD is quite common for those diagnosed based on the reading I have done.
I wonder if you have any advice for how we might engage with this family member so that they might listen and accept help?

Have you done DBT yet I did six months but I found it to much as I have a physical difficulty to

No I haven't done dbt with a therapist. My cpn did some work around it with me though. I too have a physical disability and walk with sticks. I know someone who has done two long courses of DBT and is still very ill in hospital as it did not work for them. She.told me that it does not help as many people as professionals lead people to believe. She has been in hospital for three years now so I would imagine she does have some idea. My last cpn also said she strongly thinks I have asd . A milder form but it is there none the less. Having researched this I fit so much of it and my psychiatrist said they think I am neurodiverse. I do not wish to seek an official diagnosis right now because bpd had such a stigma and I barely have to deal with that right now. I see people of my age out doing the things I used to do like dancing , long walks etc and I occasionally feel a bit bitter as I am only in my 40s and I wish I could still do all the things I want. I hate having to take so many medications too. I apologise for going off on a tangent!
