I picture them as very small sugar gliders who suddenly go ping!

Aww that's a cute way to see them!

Are you not scared of accidentally killing them? They are so tiny!

OrangeFlowersAreLovely · 17/09/2022 19:35

What planet are you originally from? 😁

MagpiePi · 17/09/2022 19:37

They are seriously cute!
I didn't think they'd be so small though.

Slight derail here - if you have a house spider in the bath, should you leave it there or relocate somewhere else? - inside obviously! I'm a fan of spiders so am happy to have them round the house.
There used to be one that came out every evening from behind the telly and would scuttle round the room.

Soubriquet · 17/09/2022 19:43

This might give you an idea as to how small they are

That beige skin coloured thing next to the spider? That’s my finger tip

For size

I don't think house spiders can get out of the bath on their own? So I'd definitely move it.

He is so handsome

He’s difficult though. Extremely shy so I rarely get to handle him. Difficult to get him to eat because he’s scared of the food, but also won’t eat either if I stand there to try and help him Hmm.

Definitely getting a female next time. They are generally more out going

AlsoknownasOther · 17/09/2022 20:09

I think I just mastered reading a thread without seeing any of the pictures.

Never in a zillion years.

But, having heard of the London Zoo experience and having been terrorised by a spider on holiday in the only toilet... maybe I should try it

He sounds like my male dog. Complete oddball who acts like he is scared of his food bowl.

The male I have is very outgoing. As soon as I open the enclosure to feed or mist he comings running towards me

You should do it.

Holding a tarantula changed everything for me.

Maybe a silly question but do they bond with you at all? I’m sure you’re very attached to them but do you think it’s mutual? (other than being the person that brings worms?!)

That's a great question!

I think most of their bond with humans will be food related but they do seem to have little personalities and are very nosy little creatures.

I think alot of it may anthropomorphic on owners side. However I think they know the difference between me and other people.

Can I ask where you brought your spider from please! (Severe arachnophobia) but I find these little critters rather cute & have been thinking of getting one for a while!
(Already have an enclosure)

There’s quite a few different breeders

Magick Morphs
Arachnomoria
Phidporium
Jumping Spiders London

and many many more

Its best to find a proper breeder and not a pet shop but if you join any of the jumping spiders UK Facebook posts, people there are quite happy to help you

Hi, of course.

I got mine from The Phidippus Palace and also from a private seller who doesn't have a 'business name' so don't want to post his real name here but feel free to PM me.

Facebook is great for jumping spider groups. They have lots of information for newbies :)

They're so cute, for spiders 😂

PoseyFlump · 18/09/2022 12:48

So my DP has just caught me admiring the latest Lydia photo and probably thinks I was making up my arachnophobia all along 😂

YesitsBess · 18/09/2022 12:51

SHES DOING A PEEK! Crikey I love Lydia

SweetPetrichor · 18/09/2022 13:05

Do you think you’d ever get a tarantula?

I was arachnophobic and got into spiders through fascination of the fear. I used to be too scared to be in a room with a spider, but now I have 30+ tarantulas, 1 jumping spider and 1 wolf spider.

This is one of my previous jumpers. She was called Freya. I now have a tiny baby jumper called Ethel but she’s too hard to get a good photo!

A few more of Lydia.

I will tell her she has some fans 😁

@SweetPetrichor I did actually get a tarantula. I lasted a week. I was too scared of her getting out. My kids were horrified and I found it stressful so a local enthusiast took him.

I held one and really enjoyed it but that was under professional supervision. I found that on my own back I was way too nervous and I felt like that put the spider in danger as there is no way I could have kept my cool in a quick thinking situation.
