I read Tarot cards, ask me anything

Well, almost anything... I am not unwilling to do a few readings, but might not have the time to do lots. I'm interested in other kinds of discussion around Tarot.

I agree @MerlinsButler, I think a traditional one is best to start with, not least because a lot of the guidance will refer to the Rider Waite Smith.

Worth a try @AceofPentacles. I'd definitely take a look if you started one. I'm not sure where it'd fit in.

What's the best way to start reading? I have a Rider Waite deck and various other oracle cards but just don't have the confidence to work with them more in case it's all wrong.

I am not sure if there is a best way. I suspect it's in a Tarot Circle that I run in a lovely peaceful space with good catering and a lovely group of people with high quality activities and beautiful materials that exists only in my imagination Wink

I would start with the Major Arcana and follow the Fool's Journey. Do two or three cards at a time. So, take a card. Read from a few sources (books or free online) and pick out what that card is generally taken to mean.
Then think about how it resonates with your life and your experiences. When have you experienced something similar. How did you feel? What did you learn?

I keep a journal for all of this, with lots of doodles and images stuck in etc.

Then tomorrow learn a couple more and practise the ones you already know too.

Once you have a few cards, notice how they relate. For example, the relationship between The Magician and The High Priestess and then the relationship between The High Priestess and The Empress and then The Empress and The Emperor...

(Also, what do you mean by "in case it's all wrong"?).

Thank you. By "all wrong", I mean in case I come out with a load of bollocks that just isn't right for the person I'm reading for!

Tbh, There isn't & I don't. Thats why I was wondering if it will be like this forever or if I just tough it out whether it will improve in a few years when I can relocate.

Neither sound like a great option to me. Could you start making space? Can you find 20 minutes in a park, cafe, car park etc. this week just to sit with a nice drink and learn about a card or two?

yes possibly.
I'd genuinely worry about using Tarot cards in this specific space though (it's not just me who feels there is 'activity' here).
I guess I feel I need someone to read for me to help get me 'unstuck' / have faith that there is an 'unstuck future' to begin with? I understand if you can't do that atm

Hi iam new to this forum , I’ve been reading some of the comments regarding tarot cards . WARNING !!!! Do not dabble , I’ve been there and opened a door to evil . Yes it predicts but also let’s the devil in. I had to have my cards burnt in 2000.at first it’s a buzz finding out about all sorts but before you know it you are hooked . Iam now a Christian . This is an abomination using magic . It is the best way to go to hell . I brought in alsorts of spirits that were very difficult to shift . All you out there please I beg you do not go there if you want to go to heaven . Iam just concerned as I know the power of these things . The readings are precise and that’s why you want more and more from it . Trust me it’s not the answer . Only god knows these things . Don t be fooled
This site never lets us down Hmm

That said I would surmise that could just as equally be true! Grammarly is a great spell checker, and grammar corrector, of that I'm 100% certain.

BrokenRainbow22 · 07/09/2022 15:37

Could you PM me as I'm interested in your 20 min reading please?

CambsAlways · 07/09/2022 16:19

oh that’s a shame I didn’t get my questions 2, answered from this morning! Maybe I should ask someone else, 🤣😜

JoeMaplin · 07/09/2022 16:21

Head or heart? I’m so torn.

Sounds like OP wanted questions about Tarot rather than to do readings.

I just remebered - I had someone say she couldn't do a reading for me. It was at a fair. i paid, she did my friend's reading and then told me she couldn't do mine and obviously gave me money back.

then I went to see a palm reader at the same fair and he told me I loved animals. I don't.

Mischance · 07/09/2022 16:26

Thank you for answering the question as to whether you take money for this; it relates closely to my third question about the state of your conscience - I hope you can make the link.

InconvenientPeg · 07/09/2022 17:51

Such an interesting thread. I only pull cards for my self ATM and use them as an opportunity to reflect.

I found the emotions and weight of what to reveal when reading for other people a heavy burden and sometimes when the images were clear and disturbing it was really uncomfortable.

And I still don't know if I believe in any of it at all, despite how it made me feel 😂

greenleafyleaves · 07/09/2022 18:24

@InconvenientPeg a lot of what you describe chimes with my experience too.

Can I learn by getting cards and using on myself? Sorry, not sure how it works. I am pretty intuitive and would love to be able to do it, is it gift or a skill?

Lottielou345 · 07/09/2022 18:37

It’s not a gift and not a skill . It’s divination , occult etc .

dottypencilcase · 07/09/2022 18:40

Will it get better...

In my humble opinion yes absolutely. I did write out some suggestions for getting started earlier. (I'm sorry I can't remember which page, I think I mentioned Fool's Journey). I think it's the same as many things - a mix of natural aptitude and skill.
I also think it's important to read the cards in your own way. Don't try to emulate someone else's way.

To some people. It's not the way I see it.

Swanswimming22 I remember my Dh and myself went to a well known medium and because he couldn’t take the first four messages, she announced oh the curtains come down , what he said, the curtains come down she repeated, it freaked him out! And I must admit I cracked up !

I actually wish readers would tell customers if they see something like that. I've had a few tarot readings and I have told them at the outset that I'd like to hear anything, good or bad, but I can understand why they won't want to expand on stuff they see as bad.

part of the complication is the reader and the customer might not see the same things as bad things.

greenleafyleaves · 07/09/2022 19:15

Yes, I agree with this. I once hesitated to tell someone what the cards read, but she already knew and was at peace with what I had read.

No, I'm more interested in answering questions about Tarot reading today rather than doing free readings.

Newgirls · 07/09/2022 19:22

This is fascinating thank you. I had a reading once and it was a positive experience. I felt encouraged into a project and it helped me understand some of the blocks. Not what I was expecting but I guess what I needed!

Freeasabird76 · 07/09/2022 19:29

How long does it take to learn how to read the tarot please?

What can you tell me about my future career life?

I see a period of indecision or over-thinking things, not being able to see all of the options and possibilities available to you. What keeps you from seeing everything clearly?
Further ahead I see an exciting new beginning - full of hope and expectation. There's an air of adventure about a new role or career. You have a natural aptitude for this and people will comment about how the job is a perfect fit for you.

I see a period of indecision or over-thinking things, not being able to see all of the options and possibilities available to you.

Isn’t this really obvious given that she asked the question? If she wasn’t totally content in her current job then presumably she wouldn’t have asked and showed that she was feeling indicisive and thinking about it.
