I read Tarot cards, ask me anything

Well, almost anything... I am not unwilling to do a few readings, but might not have the time to do lots. I'm interested in other kinds of discussion around Tarot.

Do you take money for doing this? I hope very much that you do not.

I do take money for this, yes. I charge £10 for 20 minute readings. Some people want a £20 reading.

Do you take into account the consequences of what you say to people? - no-one can truly know another's emotional vulnerability.

Yes, I am often surprised by the seriousness of people's questions, and it worries me how much they need certainty I cannot provide but the Tarot is seen as answering. I think Tarot tends to attract us at our most vulnerable or uncertain times. I know that's when I use them more.

I often have to turn down money and explain that another reading so soon will not tell them anything new because there's not been any time for things to develop.

How is your conscience?

Generally clear, but for instance today I feel conflicted about starting this thread. I have a day when I have to stay pretty still and sat down. I wanted to chat about Tarot Reading and explore my answers to people's questions.
However, I am conflicted because I am also seeing people wanting actual Tarot readings from me and many are about serious and important issues. I am wondering how to handle that, and where my responsibilities lie.
Should I have said in my OP "No Readings"? I was open to doing a couple, especially if nobody was otherwise interested in the thread. But now, I'm not sure it was wise or kind.

I had my cards read years ago. To be honest it has upset me and still does today. She was scarily accurate on most things but didnt mention DD2 at all, I was told all about DD1 and DS and their futures and careers ( spot on) but it was as if DD2 didnt exist. I worry that she saw something she didnt want to reveal. Could this be the case??

If this was the case, she didn't hide it very well!

I can see why this has upset up. Do you mind me asking the birth order of your children? I am very curious as to how DD2 shows up in the family. What are her roles in the family dynamic?

DD2 is my 3rd child and was about 4 when the reading took place. She is a totally different nature to the other 2- very private and only will tell you waht you need to know. She holds down a good job, gets on well with her siblings but seems to use me as an emotional punchbag. I so worry for her future.

any insight would be so appreciated Smile

Two questions....do you have a a particular spread that you find most useful?

I like the Celtic Cross for a general reading for a generally curious person with no specific question.

I like doing a 12 month calendar spread for the year ahead in December :)

I mostly love a 3-card spread though. "Help, Hinder, Hidden Potential" or "Let Go, Accept, Embrace". Those kinds of spreads are my favourite.

I see people on social media asking, "Why did he ghost me" and they have a 9-card spread. I can't figure those out at all.

Secondly (and this is more of personal one I suppose) what significance do you give to a suit reoccurring throughout the cards? I've been asking the cards how I can best help my son and the cards are almost exclusively wands... every time. I'm sure that there is a message in this but I'm not sure what!

I think each suit has a theme a message. If the Wands kept appearing for me, I'd see it as a sign to stop trying to think or intuit my way through a problem and just take action. (I'm a bit of an over-thinker). What's that saying? "the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing".

Do you ever get a really really specific read? A lot of what I see and hear is fairly broad and open to interpretation (which is fine of course!), but I wondered if anything has ever come from the cards that is incredibly specific.

Yes, in two ways. Firstly, the more I know someone and their situation, the more accurate the interpretation. That's why I always think the more you put in the more you get out.

The other situation is when I tell them what I can see in my mind. I tend to only do that for people I know who won't take it too seriously but I can give details. For example, a confident, "alternative" young woman asked me if she should have another baby and I could see, "You're with a much older man, he's good with his hands (wink, wink) and I think he is the one who wants to have a baby sooner rather than later" and she was gobsmacked at how I knew that.

So was I, to be fair.

Who decided what tarot cards mean and how did they decide that, do you know? Where do the pictures come from?

I've given up doing tarot for people because what they all actually want is an answer to their relationship problems or they want to know when will they meet a partner. I'm really not interested in answering these sorts of questions - I want to explore deeper esoteric questions, past lives and so on.
How do you feel about the questions people ask you?

Hey @greenleafyleaves - great thread !

My question is do you read 'jumpers' ?

And what are your thoughts on using oracle cards to clarify or interpret a reading ?

greenleafyleaves · 07/09/2022 12:54

So on that note, could you do a quick (three card maybe so not too basic) read for me, and I could do one for myself and compare? See not only how similar they are to one another, but how accurate either/both are to my life?

@BeyondPurpleTulips if you ask a question and pull a card to answer it, I'll do the same and we can compare Smile

Spirit guides are a deception. Whatever forces are at play in giving the reader intuitive information are not from good, loving sources, as much as they pretend to be.

I know this wasn't a question, let alone directed at me, but I just want to re-state that I don't believe in any goods, spirits, demons or whatever.

I just wonder why that sort of thing never happens to me.

@MattDillonsEyebrows I wonder what that means to you? How does it feel to never be the one that gets a spookily accurate reading?

(I'd love to learn to read the cards for myself but the house I live in is a bit - a LOT 'unsettled' & although I don't think the Tarot 'lets in evil' or I'd not be asking, I am too much of a wuss to open up the deck I was given a couple of years ago to try)

This piqued my curiosity. Where is there space for you to explore your feelings or new learning or anything just for you? Where do you find some settled and safe space?

My questions - do you find reading the cards for people tiring? I’m always knackered afterwards.

Yes, completely. Holding that much sadness is deeply tiring. It's the main reason I've stopped advertising and looking for work. I just do requests now.

And, how do you deal with people being rude when they find out you read? I’ve had some really snotty comments, that I suspect are based on fear and misunderstanding. Sometimes it’s hard to know what to say when someone laughs in your face, though.

I generally just shrug. I mean, I get their scepticism and I'm not out to convince anyone of anything. There are also things I am deeply sceptical about and find it tempting to ridicule or dismiss (such as belief in gods and demons).

Tbh, There isn't & I don't. Thats why I was wondering if it will be like this forever or if I just tough it out whether it will improve in a few years when I can relocate.

Yes, you can read about the history of them. They pretty much arose on the continent in the late middle ages as playing cards. Divination was all the rage then. Obviously the Church didn't like lay people encroaching on their territory and clamped down on divination of all sorts.
Later on, when interest in the occult rose in the late 1800s, people started re-writing the history of the cards to make them seem more mystical. Nowadays people still make connections between the cards and their other interests like angels, crystals, numerology and cats (for some reason, cats are very popular).

One thing I do find interesting is how people take the main themes (Beginnings, Death, Friendship, Loss etc.) and reimagine the imagery.
I also wonder what modern themes are missing and that would be included were the Tarot invented nowadays.

That's interesting, because I'm the opposite. I feel uncomfortable when people expect me to know about stuff like past lives and angels and energies, because I just don't.
I like Readings about the near future, questions like, "I'm nervous about a new job, what's it going to be like?" or "I want to meet someone, how should I go about it?"

Always Grin . Depending on how they jump I take them as information for my eyes only or about a path now not taken.

Neither sound like a great option to me. Could you start making space? Can you find 20 minutes in a park, cafe, car park etc. this week just to sit with a nice drink and learn about a card or two?

Ha it's just a traditional Rider Waite one but it has beautiful illustrations.

Though there is also a wild animal one I love but I think the traditional one would be easier to learn from / with.

Though I would absolutely love a Discworld one with Granny Weatherwax as the High Priestess. Grin

Hi fellow tarot reader, refreshing to see a tarot thread that is (largely!) not full of spite. I've often thought there should be a tarot chat thread somewhere for enthusiasts would you like to start one? :)
