I’m a moral philosopher- AMA

I don’t know whether anyone would find this interesting but, as the title indicates, I am an academic who specialises in moral philosophy (ethics). People have seemed to find this interesting at various points - AMA!

@randommorning thanks for this brilliant AMA! I took a MP masters but ended up doing nothing with it, however I really enjoyed your down-to-Earth style so reading your answers was fun.

Curious what your thoughts are on crime and punishment. The death penalty for example. If someone commits a truly sadistic crime and trying to rehabilitate them hasnt worked (because they are a persistent repeat offender) we should keep them away from society for others safety. But then, what is the point of them? keeping them essentially locked in a box until they die whilst society pays for their keep. Should we end their lives? Are they evil- does evil exist?- if they know what they've done wrong does that make them evil, if they have a sociopathic or psychopathic disorder perhaps thats not their fault if their brain is wired incorrectly?

I studied philosophy and ethics at A level and loved it. Went to uni for a very different degree in the end but did consider pursuing. What sort of jobs do your grads get?
