Ask away, as long as it's not the name of a B side to some obscure Top 40 hit from an obscure band. :)

@VintageRoseFlower

I always think contestants would be gutted to get onto Popmaster and end up with Scott Mills.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Always think that poor Scott 🤣
IsaLating · 03/03/2022 22:07

Aw I’d love Scott mills! But Ken is a legend.

My best friends brother was on a few weeks ago and impressively name checked every child in his class ( he’s a teacher)

LubaLuca · 03/03/2022 22:11

Better Scott Mills than the terrible Gary Davies.

ScouseQueen · 03/03/2022 22:17

Can you explain the scoring system? I've never understood what points are awarded for what questions!

xsquared · 03/03/2022 22:54

@IsaLating
Yes, I heard that episode and thought how lovely he mentioned each by name even if he's only meant to have 30 seconds for the shout outs.

@LubaLuca You see, I disagree! I love a bit of Whoo! Gary Davies and think he would be a worth replacement for Ken when he retires! When Scott Mills did his first Popmaster, it was like pulling teeth he rambled for so long between each question! He is getting better though.

@ScouseQueen
Scoring system:
10 questions, 3 bonuses based on short audio clips for questions 3, 6 and 9.
Each correct answer to a regular question, scores you 3 points.
Each correct answer to a bonus question scores you 6 points.

If you were to answer them all correctly, you would get the sum:
3+3+6+3+3+6+3+3+6+3 = 39

Sometimes if the answer is close, they will award you a 1 on the regular question or a 2 on a bonus question.
For example, yesterday somebody said Unfinished Symphony instead of Unfinished Sympathy and instead of scoring 3, they scored 1.
Wrong answer scores you 0 obviously.
This doesn't happen very often though so the score is usually some multiple of 3.

I'd love to go on. Some days I score teens odd time twenties but sometimes it's three! I'm too scared I'll get a three!!

theluckiest · 15/04/2022 23:34

Oooh!! I'm so glad I've found this!!

My DH was on Popmaster last year. He said it was the most nerve-wracking thing he'd ever done. He said it was weird as one minute you can hear Ken on the phone just like the radio, then a producer says '10 seconds' and then you're on!!!

He won and got the 3 in ten too. Grin

Did you get the Popmaster radio? Where do you keep yours?

GoodSoup · 24/04/2022 07:52

Aw, I’d be well pleased to get Scott Mills, he’s great! I love it when he stands in for Ken.

Well done to your DH for winning and getting 3 in 10.

For a long time, I wouldn't get my radio out anywhere as it was too precious (I know!). Then in the first lockdown, dh set up a WFH office in the spare room and it sits on his desk.

Where does your dh keep his radio?

That Popmaster radio is a very precious thing indeed!
DH keeps his in the living room. He turns it on when we go out to keep the dog company 😆

I also got him this for his birthday. Has pride of place in the porch...
