I can see the cahms one, so thought I'd chip in.

I work in a working age mental health team, previously in forensics

Obviously can't especially advise on anything too specific and the way my team works may not be reflective of your local teams

What is your profession?

Cmhtama · 12/02/2021 14:32

@Cockerelli

I'm a mental health nurse by background. I started as a hca (way back then) and have moved across various teams mostly forensic services and then community working age

Have you experienced any physical violence from your clients ? Do you see famillies who deny mental health issues due to the stigma attached to it, depending of cultural background?

Physical violence does occasionally occur. It happens more in inpatient environments, but is usually the result of people being very unwell. There are lots of protective things we do, but sadly people are often very scared and might not understand what's happening. In the community there's a lot more verbal aggression rather than violence but its a different kettle of fish because you might be at someones home rather than with your team on the ward.
I've never been seriously injured and its not something I worry about on a daily basis but do know others that have had worse experiences

Stigma about mental health has definitely reduced so families tend to be more understanding as a whole. Some things are very cultural based, so for example some disinhibited behaviour is a lot harder in some Conservative communities
