Mouse / mice

Hey everyone, I really don’t know where else to take this thread so any help advice would be greatly appreciated,, so since the beginning of November I have noticed black rice droppings, I knew straight away it was a mouse droppings. Me and my partner have sat up all night NO sign of this mouse. We have pulled apart the kitchen filled all holes that was able to squeeze a pencil through NO mouse. we have pulled all front room apart aswell as kids toy boxes NO mouse, my partner thought I was just finding black dirt and not droppings. We have closed up every gap inside and outside NO sign of a nest or anything remotely noticeable sighs 3 droppings in kitchen cupboard under sink and 5 droppings under my sofa, these droppings are appearing every couple of days but yet no other signs. Laid traps with gloves and peanut butter it totally avoids them, put poison down in baits again it avoids them. Am I going totally insane or is this little blitter extremely clever ? Any ideas I’m at my wits end now with home schooling and Christmas round the corner? Help lol x

@ShoppingBasket I’ve tried using flour unfortunately my dog thinks his helping my cleaning it up 🙈 really not helpful at all.

@OhYouBadBadKitten - nope my partner has removed the bottoms of the sofas and checked every where no sign of mice activity within the sofa!

Can you get a cat?

Mummybear26 · 08/12/2020 21:07

No unfortunately this is not an option as I am allergic. My friend did ever so kindly give me some used cat litter 😳 but this doesn’t seem to have put The mouse / mice off!!

Oh, gosh, Christmas droppings around the treeGrin Sorry but it is funny in some ways although I know it's not funny. X

pessimistiquerealistique · 09/12/2020 12:29

Here they talk how to correctly clean mice droppings, just in case. www.idealhome.co.uk/care-and-cleaning/how-to-get-rid-of-mice-21472

I would suggest to use bird food to catch the mice. Also make sure there's no bird food on the floor at any time.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/12/2020 12:57

I'm afraid to say it, but you probably have advanced space mice with transporter technology. What a bugger. :(

pessimistiquerealistique · 09/12/2020 13:11

You know that rats come to the bird feeder. If you have birds inside then you have to either move them somewhere for a short while or you would need to make sure there is no bird food on the floor as this is where the mice come.

Mummybear26 · 09/12/2020 19:39

Yeah I laugh about it @pessimistiquerealistique because if I didn’t I think I would literally cry! I have been cleaning exactly like that no chances have been taken with this little sod 😂 bird seed has been taken up at night and hoovered before going to bed so none about! Funny you should say that we put out bird millet last night in a trap and today I’ve pulled everything apart and haven’t managed to find a single dropping! One clever this bugger that’s for sure!! @OhYouBadBadKitten there is definitely some high trained mouse that’s for sure 😂! I’m just out of ideas and now to top it all off we’ve been identified as a close contact for covid 🤦🏻‍♀️ Looks like I’m gonna have plenty of time on my hands to hunt out this mouse/ mice ... or should I say plenty of time getting to know them 😂 ! X

Thought I would give a update and ask for advice again!! So Saturday MORNING here I sat kids making noise , Christmas music on etc, I went to pick up my cuppa and low and behold something caught the corner of my eye.. yep it was a mouse but this wasn’t mumma who jumped on the sofa it was a BABY mouse who was quite happy to come and investigate and play on my rug..... so after careful watching and monitoring it the little baby went off into somewhere I just couldn’t believe...... into my carpet on the bottom stair!! Anyway it done this a few times in the hour I spent just watching it. DH came home and put poison in the hole and filled with wire wool ( compacted) and filled it over.... so day 3 and we have no odd smells, nothing chewed and no droppings or so I thought,, just doing my normal routine and found ONE yes just ONE mouse dropping under my sink... now I know Saturday morning there was a fair few under there I thought I had cleaned properly but what’s the chances I missed that ONE dropping?? Nothing in traps, bird seed Untouched, no piles of seed under my sofa nothing that is normally standing out like a sore thumb?! What we thinking guys? X ( thinking positive))

Mummybear26, thank you for the update. Let's hope they're gone now and that was the last dropping. You were lucky to spot their hideaway place because of the young and naïve little mouse. In some ways, I feel sorry for them (only because they're cute and small). But then, if you don't get rid off the mice, they will take over your house in a few months. Fingers crossed they don't come back.

catnoir1 · 15/12/2020 17:41

Shortbread on a snaptrap if you need to catch another. They breed every 21 - 28 days. I had to get pest control in, couldn't get shot of the little shits!

TooManyDogsandChildren · 15/12/2020 17:48

try sprinkling talcum powder (not flour as that is food) round all the locations you have seen mice last thing at night after everyone including the dog has gone to bed. Can do it on top of paper for less mess. Hopefully you will be able to track their little mousy feet back to where they are coming in.

Mine had excavated a hole up from the sub-floor behind the fridge right in the angle between the floor and the wall.

Mummybear26 · 15/12/2020 18:58

@pessimistiquerealistique - I felt absolutely dreadful he / she was so so cute the size of ya little finger... think it wanted to be friends, but as you said they destroy things, I’ve got children and other animals don’t wish for any germs or anything over Christmas!! Hoping and praying that is it now! Can only keep checking!!!

@catnoir1 Thank you for the advice I’m hoping that isn’t the case anymore but will remember that! We wanted to try ourselves with Christmas on the doorstep now and two children just didn’t have the money to pay out right this month 😞

@TooManyDogsandChildren I will also remember that in future but I’m hoping I’ve dealt with them now! Unfortunately whatever I put down the dog thinks it’s something for him and will still sample it.. only time will tell! Fingers crossed we have a mouse free Christmas!

A cat or terrier. Put down lots of peppermint oil. They hate that.

Mummybear26 · 15/12/2020 20:34

Get get another dog and a cat isn’t an option as I’m allergic! Yes used loads of pure peppermint oil and it left me with terrible headaches.

@mummybear26 Are you still having problems with the pesky mice, cos I may have a solution for you?

ruple · 10/01/2021 19:25

@Ameanstreakamilewide please share your wisdom as I'm having the same problem since 20th December! Every time it's been quiet for a few days and I think I've cracked it, I then hear the scurrying and knawing again Shock

Ok!

Mice wee constantly, cos that's how they communicate with their pals; and peppermint disrupts their comms network.

So, maybe you could add some drops of peppermint oil in strategic places in your house?

Try not to leave the oil on anything remotely edible, cos the little toe rags will just eat it.

Best of luck! 🤞🏻

ruple · 11/01/2021 17:44

Thanks amean, I've already tried that ☹️ I think it has helped stop them coming into the kitchen but they have moved upstairs now instead! Maybe I need to pull up carpets and sprinkle the oil into the floorboards!

Oh that's a pain in the bum, in that case.

I'm sorry to have got your hopes up...

I haven't read the full thread, so can you tell me what you've already tried, please?
