I know it's not the most juicy of topics for an AMA, but before I got mine on I was FULL of questions and uncertainties, so I figured I'd throw my hat into the ring in case I could be of use to anyone else!

Hi! I had adult braces too and I just wanted to suggest that occasionally you (or anyone who reads this in future) get a second opinion on how it’s all going. I had mine done by a dentist, not an orthodontist, which I know sounds crazy but I was given a LOT of very persuasive chat about their great technique and they donate a lot to charity which convinced me they were β€˜good’. And they had been practiced orthodontics for many years. Just it appears not well.

Anyway I am extremely unhappy with the result and after a couple of years of braces (the braces were only supposed to be on for 6-12 months 😑) asked an orthodontist for a second opinion. They were very critical of the work the dentist had done and said the only way to fix it was to have extractions and another 2 years braces.

So bit of a disaster for me wish I’d kept the wonky crowded teeth, dentist gave me an overbite and a bite that doesn’t fit together when I chew.

Sorry to be so negative, but when I was researching it so many forums said β€˜trust in your dentist’s expertise’ and that was a big mistake for me :(

Ok a few questions
How were your teeth beforehand?
What kind of brace did you get?
How much did it cost you?
How much did it hurt having them put on (I know they hurt right after), worse than a filling? There's no drilling right, just gluing?
Do you love your teeth now?

I want to get them but keep putting it off, my teeth are wonky and crowded but I am such a wuss with pain and it’s so unbelievably expensive. Something else always seems a better use of our savings.
