Was the company debt free?
Do you live within your day to day earnings or use the sale money to pay for things like school fee’s, private jets to Mykonos?!!
Have you plans for philanthropy?
Do you socialise with people of similar wealth?

Rapunzel91 · 01/09/2019 21:44

What area in law did you work in?

What does a typical day now look like?

Okurrrrrrrr · 15/09/2019 19:43

50M!!!! That's amazing OP, well done!
Did it all come in one chunk?? Did you experience any mansplaining/sexism in your career?

LivingAllTheDreams · 29/09/2019 12:47

Ooh some more questions....

@hardyloveit I bought myself a piece of jewellery that I love.

@Wherearemymarbles I live on day to day income although have taken some cash to purchase a bigger home.

Funnily I still balk at the cost of holidays to Mykonos so certainly no private jets, although we do fly business now Smile

My DC have always been in fee paying schools. There were some years where that was a real scrape. It's nice not to worry.

Re philanthropy I support a couple of smaller but still mainstream charities and I've had some fun over the past couple of years donating to crowd funders. I'd like to take a more joined up approach over the next few years and do something a bit more significant.

@Okurrrrrrrr no it didn't come in one chunk there was quite a complicated structure of staged payments and to another Q above their was some debt so that needed to be taken into account.

I experience mansplaining all the time Grin. My DH also has a small business from which he makes a good living. Virtually everyone we meet assumes he is the earner and that I am a kept woman.

I actually had an interesting interaction with a man who I know through the DCs school. We were chatting and he commented he works in a particular industry and I remarked that we used that service and commented on the extent.

He told me I couldn't possibly utilise it that much and I should check with DH and call him with the correct figures if I wanted "a deal".

He obvs went home and recounted story to wife or friend and god knows how that went but two days later he called me very sheepishly with an offer to join him and his business partner at an extremely VIP corporate event Grin Grin

@LivingAllTheDreams - That's hilarious and infuriating in equal measure!
DH and his fellow owner have been offered 7mil for half the company (i.e. 3.5 each). They want to hold out to grow the company more but part of me wants them to take it now! I can't quite imagine what we'd even do with 3 mil let alone more but I clearly lack imagination. It does feel a bit weird keeping on with our standard income when there's all this potential money locked up.

Found this after a post in the money section. Just wanted to say congrats OP, great to hear of a woman making an absolute fortune, well done! I hope you enjoy the fruits of your hard work.

BasilOfBakerStreet · 23/01/2020 21:53

HA! I hope that man felt very embarrassed and won't be making that mistake again! Thank you for replying OP.

This is probably way too cheeky but it is AMA after all so I'm going to go for it.....What's the biggest cheque you could write out right now and it not bounce?

SciFiScream · 23/01/2020 22:02

How far have you come on your philanthropy journey? I recommend getting in touch with your local community foundation.

Or you could DM me. I'm happy to give some advice the philanthropy.

Angliski · 20/02/2020 16:52

Did you have a specific buyer in mind? Did they approach you or you them? Did you use a broker? How long did the sale rake? What was your turnover and profit at the time you sold? Did you have any debt or investment or did you grow the business organically? How long from launch to sale?

@LivingAllTheDreams

I’ve also got a business in the learning/he space with proprietorial IP and a way to go digital so would love your Insight in these questions.
