I have antisocial personality disorder. This is a spectrum. I fall to one extreme of the spectrum which is referred to as psychopathy. I am a 33 year old woman with a professional career. AMA.

It's ama. Noone has been rude but some have said they identify with you a lot.

If you don't want to talk about how you qualify as a physocpath that's fair enough but I thought it would be an expected question.

Anyway you seem perfectly normal so if that's your point then cool.

MarcieBluebell · 26/10/2018 00:32

I never understood the whole ‘all psychopaths are criminals’ trope.

It goes with risk taking and a lack of conscience. Lack of empathy IS a huge part of being a psychopath as is being manipulative. You can research diagnostic criteria but you can't escape this.

TheFatberg · 26/10/2018 06:25

The main tool for diagnosing psychopathy (which isn't a mental health condition in any of the manuals) has a whole section about criminal behaviour and personality. Have a look at the PCL-R.

Devilishpyjamas · 26/10/2018 07:21

I asked who diagnosed because it sounded a bit like it had been one psychologist & I don’t think that would be seen as a particularly robust diagnosis. Ideally you would want an MDT including psychologist/psychiatrist/SLT etc.

FWIW I work within the MH system and the boundary between ASD/PD is blurry - by which I mean teams seem to switch the dx between the two (which is interesting if someone has hard an ASD dx since childhood and suddenly people are trying to say it was a misdiagnosis and they have a personality disorder - I personally am always a little concerned when that is being suggested - not saying they’re wrong but I would want there to be lots of evidence for that switch). Sometimes it’s about accessing services that require a particular dx.

In terms of daily functioning you sound as if things are relatively straightforward apart from some curiosity about being different (I know that may be not be the case) - do you think the dx has helped or has it opened another can of worms?

Eatsleepworkrepeat · 26/10/2018 08:02

This is a really interesting thread, thanks for starting it. I'd always assumed from the name that antisocial personality disorder was related to criminal/antisicial behaviour, but it sounds as if you don't have that at all. Did it surprise you to get that label?

Batteriesallgone · 26/10/2018 11:26

Did you have any trauma in your childhood?

How is your relationship with your parents?

fantasmasgoria1 · 26/10/2018 12:42

If people use quora there is a psychopath on there called Athena walker and there are a lot of threads on there where she answers questions! Just saying because op has gone.

Dontfeellikeaskeleton · 26/10/2018 12:47

I hope she comes back. I'm sure she won't.

ScabbyHorse · 27/10/2018 09:56

Athena Walker is amazing.

AMAAtall · 29/10/2018 20:47

I have been swamped with private mesaages. I have had childhood trauma. I can’t diagnose your friend. I can’t always spot someone with similar traits to myself but on occasion I can identify and therefore safeguard myself. I do experience love although I don’t know if that’s how others do but how can anyone know how someone else experiences love? I’m not autistic. I have been involved in criminal activity. I haven’t got a criminal record although I have been involved with law enforcement. I have been in relationships. I’m not right now as it isn’t right for me. I have a professional occupation although people would be maybe surprised at what it is- I work in a role where I support people and I pride myself on doing it well. I take care of animals. People who are cruel to animals should have a bullet through them. I have empathy but it runs out fast. I empathise with animals and with the vulnerable. I do a lot of work linked to the Holocaust. I work hard. I’m not a monster. I just can’t feel.

Thank you, this is very interesting

Shortyboo · 02/11/2018 12:45

Hi OP, have you ever felt depression? Or very low moods?

Shortyboo · 02/11/2018 12:51

ScabbyHorse Anthea has some interesting responses but whoever is behind Anthea is also pretending to be another (psychopthic) member /user called Kataleena (I think that’s how you spell it). Their style of writing etc is almost identical. So Anthea is possibly a troll.

Although I believe the OP here is legit.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 02/11/2018 13:00

OP, I hope you come back. Your posts are fascinating.

Aroundtheworldandback · 03/11/2018 20:23

You do a lot of work linked to the Holocaust so you must have empathy (I am assuming the educational trust). Thank you for educating us about your condition.

QuilliamCakespeare · 03/11/2018 21:16

This is one of the most interesting threads I've ever read on MN. Thanks for starting it, OP. I'd love for you to come back and tell us more.

Onecutefox · 11/11/2018 22:01

I think OP people just don't see you as a psychopath but that it. There is nothing to be so upset to be about. It's AMA and people discuss things.

Onecutefox · 11/11/2018 22:03

That was a tantrum. Why to post?

FissionChips · 11/11/2018 22:08

Are psychopaths usually so sensitive? There haven’t even been any harsh responses Confused

^ Genuine question.

Idkwtf · 11/11/2018 22:08

Flouncing doesn't really seem like something a psychopath would do
does it?

Idkwtf · 11/11/2018 22:10

I mean I thought your psychopath was someone who is cool and doesn't react emotionally?
then again why would a psychopath want to come in on internet forum and share with people?

adoggymama · 12/11/2018 11:47

The OP is either trying to control us and make us want her to come back more... or simply having a temper tantrum because a few people questioned her diagnosis and is now out on the prowl taking out her anger on innocent victims in her basement. 😁

Onecutefox · 13/11/2018 22:35

Judging by her reaction I can believe that is a psychopath. Tantrums.

Onecutefox · 13/11/2018 22:36

Judging by her reaction I can believe that She is a psychopath. Tantrums.

iLoveFoood · 17/11/2018 13:57

Wow, sounds a lot like me too. I feel excluded from everything as you say, spectator. I don't take part in work events cause I feel the other people work there and I don't Confused or I see people who started at the same time as me being best friends and moving stages in their friendship from acquaintance to good friend and that just doesn't happen with me, I can't bond with anyone anymore only if it's one to one very rarely.
