I can't remember when I last slept for more than 3 hours in a night (maybe 15 years ago?)
I'm permanently exhausted, sometimes to the point of being ill, but somehow survive, and have a job, a marriage, a baby and drive a car. But I sometimes wonder how I'm even still alive 😭😭😭

My husband has had insomnia since before the 10 yrs I’ve known him. It’s taken me a long time to really understand, in the way some of you describe, I know I’ve caused a lot of upset over the years by just telling him to ‘stop thinking’ and getting frustrated with him moving and waking me up. A few bouts of temporary pregnancy insomnia and a terribly sleeping child for 18m have given a small insight, as well as listening to his feelings of course. I have so much respect for how you manage it. For him meditation is helpful, and a practice of accepting what is happening and avoiding getting frustrated as much as possible. The difference in him in the morning is amazing between a night where he’s felt relaxed vs frustrated, each with only 3 or 4hr Sleep. It’s the training in meditation which has helped him gain more control over his thinking in this way.

He also religiously follows the rule of not staying in bed awake for more than 20m, he has some favoured places in the house he goes to to read or listen to music. He always makes sure he puts on warm clothes and keeps warm for this, goes under a blanket and tries to enjoy whatever activity until he feels sleepy and goes back to bed.

Now he generally gets 5-6 hrs sleep but will still have nights with very little. I really hope for all of you that you find solutions that work for you. Greatest respect.

a good cannabis indica strain works very well. Such a shame its illegal, because this is one of the medical reasons it should be legalised imo

Branleuse, I would like to try that but no legit means to do so.
