Ginger, I think we were a few months apart even though she is 5 minutes older than me

Petal, no neither of us have children.

OP posts:
DENMAN03 · 09/08/2018 22:31

Petal, are you very close to your twin?

Hi, I'm also an identical twin! we were never dressed the same, separated at primary school and brought up independent. Our mum refused to allow the teachers to call us the twins or the girls!
Sadly, we are n/c as she is a classic narc who bullied me most of my life. I wish we were close-we used to be, but long ago she was embarrassed by me. I was always the 'scruffy' one, she refused to walk to school with me as she didnt want to be seen with a mink like me (I wasnt, just didnt straighten my hair).
I have felt her pain (she was delighted, hoped I suffered), we do buy same cards for family members and I still meet her if I think about her. I knew when she needed me.
Sadly, she closed off that 'link' twins have when we were kids and has denied it ever since. I still feel when shes upset, but I can't let myself or my son be treated like shit anymore. She'll always be the better twin, nothing I do is good enough, so I am free to be 'me' for the first time ever.

DENMAN03 · 09/08/2018 22:38

Oh no, I'm really sorry to hear that... that must be heartbreaking for you. I couldn't even begin to imagine being no contact with my twin. Life would be so empty without her. I'm lucky we have so a great relationship.

Do you prefer her name or your own? (I can’t decide if I prefer my name or my sister’s!)

DENMAN03 · 09/08/2018 22:41

Definitely my own!! He he.. she was named after a murdered actress!! Mine is more exotic. Mum was clearly knackered by the time it came to choosing our names. We were nicknamed the Krays as babies apparently...

DorothyGarrod · 09/08/2018 22:42

Gosh! Glad you have got a name you like. Did you get identical grades in your exams?

CatOwned · 09/08/2018 22:43

Are there other twins in your family, and if so, from which side?

Petalflowers · 09/08/2018 22:43

Yes, i’m Close to my dtw, although now live in different parts of the country. We used to write long letters to each other, unless we both fell ill with the same disease and started phoning more. The letters detailed everything, a bit like a diary.

You ‘go with it’ phrase resonates with me. When visiting dtw at uni, if I met someone en route to her house, i used to say ‘hello’ back, as it was easier than saying ‘i’m not dtw’. Also, if I know people are holiday-ing in her area, I always say if you see ‘me’, say ‘hi’ as that will be my Dsis, and she won’t mind.

Incidentally, I always refer to her as my sister, not my twin.

DENMAN03 · 09/08/2018 22:44

Nope, she did loads better than me. I didn't do great in my exams. Im more arty than academic. Mind you, she probably studied harder than I did! I was lazy back then..

Another one from me, my DF is married to a twin and she hates it! She doesn’t like always having a extra person around and they expect special treatment apparently. Always like to wake up together on their birthday etc, how do you balance your romantic relationships with the one with your twin?

MyDcAreMarvel · 09/08/2018 22:47

Op mirror twins are indentical twins mine are. One is left handed and one right freckle on opposite sides etc. They both stand in the same side when standing next too each other.

TaighNamGastaOrt · 09/08/2018 22:50

It is really heartbreaking, but she has dropped most of our family and best friends too, so I'm not alone. I'm lucky, I have an older sister I'm close to!
Its lovely you have a close relationship-I'm slightly jealous! I wish she could accept me for who I am, but I know it'll never happen.
When we did get on, we used to laugh like anything at things only we would understand. I miss that, I miss the kind sister I used to have.

DENMAN03 · 09/08/2018 22:51

No, there are no other twins. I think non identical twins runs in the family but identical twins is just chance.

Dorothy, I'm single (for about 7 years now) but my sisters husband and I get on brilliantly. He's a twin too so understands I guess. He's been around for 25 years so is used to it! We go on holiday as a three or quite often my ex husband comes along too (rather odd but we have stayed very good friends) . They do have time to themselves (although I did go for some of the time in their honeymoon! We joke that he married both of us. Luckily he's not bothered.

Oh-we're mirror twins-I'm a leftie and we have matching moles on opposite sides of our body!

DENMAN03 · 09/08/2018 22:53

Ah right, I didn't know what a mirror twin was. We have a weird crease in opposite elbows and odd ears but a mole I gave is in the same place as a birth mark on her so not sure.

OP posts:
GinaCarbonara · 09/08/2018 22:54

Mirror twins are split from one egg, they're identical. The egg just splits later so the symmetry is mirrored!

DENMAN03 · 09/08/2018 22:55

Also if my boyfriend didn't get on with my twin it would never last!

@BlossomCat I'm a twin and we have often done the "same clothes" thing - I lived abroad, hadn't been home for a while, came home for Christmas but did arrive till very late, my twin and I got dressed in different rooms, came downstairs in the same outfit. Once my parents took us on holiday but we both met them at the resort as we lived in different countries. Both turned up at the airport in the same new outfit.

OP I think you're very good not blaming your twin, I've blamed her for a ton of stuff Grin. She also came to visit me at uni, had a one night stand and the boy had a real go at me in the pub the following week when he asked why id not been in touch - he didn't believe I didn't know who he was and he'd slept with my twin Grin

I now have twins and my twin sister has had twins Smile

DENMAN03 · 09/08/2018 22:57

Taigh, I totally get the laughing at things that no one else gets. We have certain words for things too that only we understand. It's a bit weird I guess. Such a shame your sister can't see what she is missing out on but it's her loss. I'm glad you are close to your other sister.

OP posts:
DENMAN03 · 09/08/2018 23:01

Name change, there's definitely something in that isn't there. I wonder what makes us zone in in the same things?

He he re blaming your twin!! You must be the evil one then?😄

Wow to you both having twins! The odds of that happening must be huge!

OP posts:
namechangedtoday15 · 09/08/2018 23:02

@Denman03 no I'm the good twin - obvs 😂Grin

Didiplanthis · 09/08/2018 23:03

Loving this. I have ID boys and they are absolutely best friends but argue constantly about everything and sound like they hate each other !! I try to make them as individual as I can but struggle to give them individual time and interests. Any tips ??

namechangedtoday15 · 09/08/2018 23:06

They'll find their way. We both have broken bones capped tooth and scars from our 'fight like cat and dog' stage but the bond is quite unique!
