There seems to be so much love and hate for people in my profession- have you anything you've always wanted to ask?

I'd like to know why hairdressers (not all, I know, but the majority in my experience) don't give you the cut you've actually asked for! I don't mean when you're asking for something unrealistic that doesn't suit your hair type, but when for example you ask for a soft, wispy fringe graduated at the sides and come out with a short, very blunt fringe, for example. Or a graduated bob, longer at the front and shorter at the back, and come out with the opposite. This is what always happens to me - my mum always said I must not be expressing myself clearly until I broke my ankle and couldn't drive and she had to take me to the hairdressers. She heard me ask quite clearly for something very specific and was the first to comment that the hairdresser had done something very different - nice but not what I had asked for. She had to drive for the next haircut too and the same thing happened, so she doesn't blame me anymore but why does this happen so much?
