Father's Day and events like sports day where loads of fathers are there are heart wrenching . Not Hearing my children say dad is very sad . My children not knowing what it's like to have a positive male in their life is unfortunate. I'm sad that none of their fathers were there at their birth to support me . There's something very special and warm about a father and child bond and it's something that my children will never know of .

Why don't they see him?

One is mentally ill and institutionalized and the other is dead

My DD is nearly 21 and her father lives overseas, has never contributed financially and hasn't had contact since she was four or five.

I'm really sorry that you are sad but it can make for a straightforward life with none of the wrangles that other people experience. DD has never known the EOW scenario, or parents arguing, or stepparents etc.

@Lobsterquadrille2 yes , this is so true , I didn't bear that in mind hopefully it also teaches them to respect women because of what I have done for them(I have sons) and do you feel the same as I do ?

@Lobsterquadrille2 Sorry just read she's 21 ( distracted by housework) I hope she's turned into a lovely young woman and it hasn't affected her severely

@lola212121 I confess that I don't really feel the same. I was with DD's father for eight years and she was planned, but then changed his mind so I guess at least I knew from the beginning! I was working overseas at the time and my parents were so horrified at the prospect of a single parent in the family that they didn't want me under their roof, so I stayed overseas. I think that once you accept a situation, you are much happier and I appreciate that sounds sanctimonious!! It took me a while, I developed coping mechanisms (some good, some not) made peace with my mother and can genuinely say that I cannot imagine things being different.

And yes, thank you, she's lovely and we have a great relationship.

@Lobsterquadrille2 inspirational !, and yes acceptance seems to be so important to deal with most things .well done ! I do sort of go into an awh poor kids and woe is me and I wish things were different mode sometimes but yes no bickering and more freedom is good
