Dad is an internationally famous musician. AMA (apart from who he is)

Is he a heart throb? I don’t think so but he did marry and date lots of gorgeous women. I think that Dad is from the era of music when talent was more preferable to goodlucks! He isn’t ugly but i don’t think he has ever been considered a pin up hunk.

Does he sing or play an instrument?

whitershadeofpale · 13/07/2018 07:50

Do you socialise with any other children of celebrities (perhaps band mates children)? I imagine there’s only very few people who would understand your experience.

I’m imagining a Fred Claus/AA style support group for survivors of rock star parents 😂

RunMummyRun68 · 13/07/2018 07:57

Has he done any big stadium tours?

12FreeRangeEggs · 13/07/2018 09:21

Dad sings, plays guitar and piano. That is common in musicians from his era, most members of the band can do all three. I won’t say which is Dad’s role as it may out me.

As a small child i did socialise with other sleb kids, but when we moved to UK when i was 8 that slowed down. Mum actively moved away from the band circle when she realised the marriage wasn’t going to last and Dad’s interests were always protected but it took them ages to actually divorce. I am not in touch with any now, haven’t been since my early 20s.

Yes he has done world tours and played in most of the big stadiums. His N. American stadium tours are pretty extensive but his band have always been big in Asia and Europe too, they play less venues though.

I’m off soon, i need to change back into my former username, want to contribute to another post.

A children of rockstars survival group would be a great idea!

I think that the biggest difference between me and other kids of rockstars is that i always went to school. Mum insisted. We joined Dad on tour only during the holidays. Mum never pulled me out of school for Dad. Surprisingly, quite a lot of musicians’ kids don’t. The school timetable doesn’t work with band tour dates so quite a few are home schooled. Or rather not home schooled as mum used to say!

'I always feared that a half sibling would turn up and be "just like dad"...

Have you seen the movie Barracuda? It is about exactly this. Is on sky at the moment, I recommend it?

PsychedelicSheep · 13/07/2018 10:09

! not ?

12FreeRangeEggs · 13/07/2018 11:40

No not seen that! Must watch it. I worried about that more when i was younger, now i doubt that would happen.

Do you have a unique name? I ask this because I am also the child of a musician and honestly the last few of us have the most ridiculous names! I often wonder what DF was taking at that point to think it was ok. Its not the worst but I was teased relentlessly, I'm only thankful I wasn't a boy as that name was a bit Hmm

12FreeRangeEggs · 13/07/2018 13:34

My name on my birth cert, my name on my passport, my name on Dad’s Wiki page, what Mum calls me and what Dad calls me are 5 different things! Yes my first name is questionable and yes i have far too many middle names!

Do you (or did you as it sounds like you're quite low profile now about your father) get asked for your dads autograph often?

What's been the most bizarre response to people finding out who your father is?

SomeAreMoreEqualThanOthers · 13/07/2018 15:50

Would we all instantly recognise your dad (his name, band etc)?

nuttynutjob · 13/07/2018 15:59

Did you go to a Steiner School?

IlikemyTeahot · 13/07/2018 16:28

Grin at least then you can take your pick, I was only given two each as bad as the other so in no way interchangeable

BitOutOfPractice · 13/07/2018 17:16

Does he still make money from his music (royalties? Touring?).

12FreeRangeEggs · 13/07/2018 18:22

I’m not sure that everyone will know his name but i am certain that everyone will know his band. I have travelled all over the world and AFAIK never met anyone who hasn’t heard of his band. His music is still played on the radio today so even Millenials listen and are “fans”.

He still plays gigs but isn’t touring ATM and still makes money from royalties. They are not writing new material...ATM.

No i didn’t go to Steiner school.

Wierdest response...not sure, but the most memorable response would have to be DH! We had been friends for ages then finally hooked up on a night out and got drunk and he came back to stay at mine. In the morning the first thing he said to me was “why is there a photo of a girl sat on Roger Moore’s knee on your chest of drawers?” Then i had to explain who Dad was and that the girl was me. At the time i didn’t have any photos of me and Dad in frames, no particular reason, not every young person frames photos of their parents. It took DH a while to get his head around it all, not helped by the fact we were both hungover.

Most peoples responses are “oh, right”. It is kind of a conversation killer. A lot of people think that you are fibbing. I am most “recognised” as Dad”s DD when i travel and pass through passport control. My name and place of birth tends to get their attention.

Actually hardly anyone asks or did ask for his autograph. I did get far to many requests for tickets to gigs and requests to go backstage, it has always amazed me how cheeky acquaintances can be.

Has your father ever written a song about you or your siblings?

SomeAreMoreEqualThanOthers · 13/07/2018 19:39

Do you actually like your dads music?

AtreidesFreeWoman · 13/07/2018 20:00

@SomeAreMoreEqualThanOthers

The OP has already answered that question.

12FreeRangeEggs · 13/07/2018 20:11

Has your father ever written a song about you? - A very hard one to answer. Apparently yes he has, at least he claims so. My name is not mentioned though. For a long time i haven’t believed the song is actually about me though. I don’t know how to answer that one. I think that attributing song to me was an after thought.

AtreidesFreeWoman · 13/07/2018 20:23

That sounds quite sad OP Sad

TisConfusion · 16/07/2018 18:16

Have there ever been any stories about him in the press that have shocked or embarrassed you?

Was he well known when your parents met?

How would you feel if your children wanted to be musicians?

Blueroses99 · 17/07/2018 22:27

Is/was your mum famous as well? She seems very grounded with choosing to move from LA and going to school instead of touring etc. Sounds like a great mum, putting you first.
