Silver Cross Lunar Bedside Crib review: a 5-star co-sleeper for newborns

Silver Cross has entered the co-sleeper crib market with the new Lunar Bedside Crib; a sleek, well-made crib with features to rival the likes of Chicco Next2Me and the Maxi-Cosi Iora. New mum Kayla put it to the test with her newborn baby over a testing period of several weeks.

How we tested the Lunar Bedside Crib

New mum Kayla used the Silver Cross Lunar Bedside Crib as a cot for her newborn baby over a testing period of several weeks (and is planning to continue using it until her baby outgrows it). Having used the crib as her baby's primary sleeping place from day one, Kayla took extensive notes on the crib's safety, durability, practicality, portability, comfiness, look and value for money. She also took note on all the features she really liked about the crib and those she would change.

How easy is the Lunar Beside Crib to assemble?

"I found it very easy to assemble," says Kayla. "The instructions were easy to follow. It took a maximum of 10 minutes."

Once assembled, the crib didn't need any adjustment other than notching to the height of our mattress.

How big is the Lunar crib?

The crib measures L93 x W57 x H71cm when assembled, which Kayla describes as "quite substantial."

If your room is small or there isn't much space next to your bed, I think this crib would be too big as a co-sleeper. It was also a bit roomy for our newborn at first.

How many different settings are there for incline and height?

The Silver Cross Lunar Bedside Crib features seven different height settings which can be used together to raise the entire crib or one side at a time to create a slight incline for reflux.

How well did your baby settle into the Lunar crib?

"We used the crib from day one with our newborn," says Kayla. "Unfortunately she didn't settle into it straight away, we think this is because it's such a large crib and there was too much space around her. I am sure when she is older and bigger, she will settle in it more easily."

How long can the Lunar Crib be used?

Like most standard newborn cribs and co-sleepers, the Lunar is designed for use by babies who weigh up to 9kg, around six months of age or until they are able to sit up unaided.

We plan to use this crib until our baby outgrows it at around six months.

-Parent-tester Kayla

Does the Silver Cross Lunar Bedside Crib represent good value for money?

At £175, the Lunar is similarly priced to rival co-sleepers such as the Chicco Next2Me, Il Tutto's CoZee and the Maxi-Cosi Iora.

"The Lunar is absolutely worth the cost," says Kayla.

Silver Cross Lunar Crib: Overall verdict

Although Kayla said she felt a Moses basket might provide a cosier sleeping place for the tiniest newborns, she was very impressed with the quality, sturdiness, look and features of the Lunar crib overall. She liked the shelf and pockets, but said "I would have appreciated pockets on both sides, just so it's more accessible for mums who sleep on the other side of the bed."

I love this bedside crib! It is beautifully designed, safe and convenient. I would 100% recommend to other parents.
