How comfortable and safe is the Little Chick London 4-in-1 Support Cushion?

Little Chick's Support Cushion is a simple pillow, but it’s well made and a pleasure to use. The material (100% bamboo) is soft to the touch and comfortable against the skin, and the polyester filling is firm, giving plenty of support without feeling restrictive.

There’s one small tag but this isn’t irritating at all – although, unfortunately, it doesn’t hold any washing instructions either. It's perfectly safe to use from day one after your positive pregnancy test through to supporting your infant and even long afterwards if needs be.

The pillow supported our tester, Laura’s, tummy really comfortably – it shaped itself around the contours of her bump to give lots of support, and she slept soundly on her side all night, even in her final trimester. During the day, it supported her lower back and was small enough to be unobtrusive.

How easy is it to use and clean?

There are no instructions on how to use the product – just photographs of the pillow in use on the packaging and on Little Chick London's website. As the online photos illustrate, the four uses are: tummy support, back support, breastfeeding support and support to prop your baby up.

Although these things are quite self-explanatory, it could be clearer – just a few lines would do. With that said, the pillow is ready to use straight out of the packaging and the Little Chick London website offers customer service details if you need any help.

The website also has a blog with a handful of useful posts for parents-to-be from real mums and dads sharing their experiences and advice.

Washing instructions are detailed on the label – the cover can be washed at 30 degrees and tumble-dried on a low heat – and the material stayed soft and bobble-free after cleaning.

Everyday marks and stains came out easily in the first wash, including spilled tea and milk. A smudge of chocolate was removed easily with a damp cloth. Great news if using after applying your best stretch mark cream!

What about day-to-day?

The 4-in-1 is a really versatile and useful little pillow. It can be used in bed, on the sofa (either when sitting up or lying down), and even in the car or at your desk. It’s small enough to cart around with you anywhere and it doesn’t take up much room either. It’s also lightweight at just 308g.

Little Chick London's pillow gives really good support, especially in bed. Laura found she slept better using this pillow – it encouraged a safe and comfortable position and general aches and pains were definitely eased.

Because it’s compact, Laura didn’t feel constricted or overheated when in bed and the pillow left plenty of room for her partner too.

It was also simple to move into different positions to provide the most support and comfort possible. If you need to get up in the middle of the night (which you surely will!), the pillow is quickly and easily popped back into the right position, meaning you can get back to sleep quickly.

During the day, Laura found this pillow really useful to use at her desk. It provided lots of support for her lower back, and its size meant she could take it with her wherever she went. It also provided support for sitting on the sofa and sitting up in bed.

Its small enough to easily store away when not in use, but Laura was happy to have it on show in the house, unlike bigger pillows she also tested like the Love2Sleep U-Shaped Pregnancy Body Pillow, the Summer Infant Ultimate Body Comfort Pillow and the Mothercare Narrow Sleep Body Pillow.

Does it offer good value for money?

At just £26, this pillow is worth its price tag, despite being a little pricier than in previous years.

While the 4-in-1 Support Cushion wasn’t the cheapest pillow we tested (the Love2Sleep V-Shaped Pregnancy Support Pillow is only £9), it's versatile and high in quality.

Laura felt she would get a lot of use from the pillow after her baby was born if she used it as a support cushion or as a breastfeeding and nursing pillow for both her and her baby.

Final verdict?

Little Chick's 4-in-1 may be simple, but it does what it needs to do – and it does it well.

It not only offers great quality, plenty of support and has multiple uses, but it proves that you don’t need to spend a fortune on a pregnancy pillow to ensure that you’re both comfortable and supported.

All in all, a great buy.
