The pasty sausage stew redolent of the ‘manel’ (the all-male panel) driving forward the Government’s progress for LGBT+ people

Picture a trans activist. You probably imagine a teenage furry raging from his gaming chair, or a self-consciously zany librarian with infected-looking piercings. Not seven men, as grey as their suits, gathered round a boardroom table.

Yet when the Government drew back the rainbow curtain this week, that was what it revealed: not the usual online oddballs, nor the much-derided liberal white women supposedly responsible for every progressive folly, but a group that looked more like insurance brokers than gender revolutionaries.

On Tuesday, the Office for Equality and Opportunity posted photographs on LinkedIn of a lobbying session, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the men “driving forward the Government’s progress for LGBT+ people”. The now-deleted post boasted of the OEO’s “commitment to banning harmful Conversion Practices, and delivering a successful European IDAHOBIT+ Forum in 2027.”

The LGBT+ stakeholders included Simon Lightwood MP, the Equalities Minister, and Lord Collins, the UK’s Special Envoy for LGBT+ Rights.

I meant the article of the thread.

“At every level, from ministers and civil servants to activists, what benefits men is instinctively treated as the common good, by both men and women.” -this was what i was referring to.

I’m not sure why you’re being antagonistic towards me, as i think we have similar views on the issue. I’m also not sure i understand why someone who doesn’t consider themselves a feminist is posting on a feminist thread. If you don’t like women or care about them, I just don’t really consider your opinions to have much value.

Reminds me how some women actually just hate other women and this is why the trans community calls radical feminists “fake feminists”. I don’t want to be lumped in with a woman hater. Don’t post about feminism if you hate feminists and women.

Never said I hate women nor feminism, but I call myself a egalitarian over a feminist. I don't see this issue as a feminist one.

As to why I'm posting here, I'm gender critical. Unfortunately expressing gender critical views on reddit got me banned and I know of no other social media platform that allows GC women to post without quickly banning them. So my options are limited. Luckily for me, I don't think you have to be a feminist to be allowed to post here.

I think you’ll find it’s the trans community who are the women haters. You seem a bit confused. @PeachyDaisy is very angry (and rightly so) at those women who gave away women’s rights . By siding with the ‘trans community” you are in fact, being lumped with women haters. I mean, they scream rape threats and death threats at women for refusing to give up their rights. You don’t get much more women hating than that with outbactually committing the crimes.

Rhamnusia · Today 01:56

The women mean well, i think.

That's not really an excuse when it comes to pushing this ideology. No, i don't forgive Nicole Sturgeon, Julia Gillard, Nadia Whithome, Stella Creasy etc because "they mean well". They are responsible for the choices they make.

It’s just like the article says, women are conditioned to cater to male needs before their own.

The article I posted never said anything about women being conditioned to cater to men. That is your opinion (one I don't happen to agree with although I'm not a feminist).

I'm not surprised that women's are the ones who mostly support this ideology. I don't think it has anything to do with patriarchy or catering to men.

Women support gender ideology more often men because they tend to be more left wing leaning. And being left wing (especially far-left) is strongly correlated with being in favour of so-called "trans rights". Obviously exceptions exist, but political affiliation is a pretty big predictor of your position on trans issues.

Except if you are communist.

Christ. That's really nasty.

Trans people are completely normal human beings, with all the variety of cis. They deserve protection from conversion practices.

I mean this is really quite frightening. The seething hatred here for perfectly ordinary individuals, stereotyping them as angry and weird, denying them personality or basic humanity.

It's actually really upset me. Reminds me of the kind of hate my son gets, just for being himself. Not for his actions, just his androgyny.

Such pointless bigotry achieves absolutely nothing. It's just laughing at difference. I cannot imagine having so much hatred in my heart for other people. What a waste of time, when there is so much genuine evil to be fought in the world.

You are imagining peoples’ responses are what you say.

You evidently do not know why a blanket ban on ‘conversion practices’ is actually about promoting a conversion practice, and specifically endangering gay and mentally troubled children. What on earth are these men doing.

IwantToRetire · Yesterday 17:34

I see one of the usual disrupters have managed to turn yet another thread into a general discussion that all threads now become.

Can we stop being manipulated by people who clearly do not have good intent?

Clearly shown by the hyperbole posted because even the slowest amongst us must recognise satire, and what should have been a discussion about how the Government (and it probably wouldn't matter which Party it is) ends up with a load of men in suits presuming to take decisions about other people's lives is now just another generalisation.

And of course the blunt instrument approach. On FWR it wasn't it the past necessary to point out that there is a huge difference between the loud over the top TRAs and most trans people.

Is anyone actually interested in how, if at all, the Government is going to be able to "drive forward the Government’s progress for LGBT+ people" if they only have a "manel".

Other people may know more about this: but as I recollect, I don't think the Communist Party support gender ideology. And some of the Conservatives did/ do support it. So it has never been a straightforward Left-Right split, in the UK at least.

In the context of reducing womanhood to a fantasy a man can have about himself (and vice versa for manhood), I'm not sure what "Left" and "Right" even mean! One one level it feels like rampant consumerism - identities as commodities that anyone can appropriate or discard in pursuit of an "authentic lifestyle".

One of the weirdest things at the GE was our husting, where the Green was proudly scientific and gender critical, and the Communist was all lived experience and pro trans ideology.
The contrast in competence between the two outsider candidates for MP was startling.

I suspect this is more to do with them being small parties at higher risk of entryism than an intrinsic link between political leaning and support for the erosion of women’s rights (a.k.a. ‘Trans rights’)

This surveys shows that 57% of greens voters disagreed with the FWS ruling compared with 32% of labour voters, 4% of conservative voters and 2% of Reform voters. So the more left wing you go the more likely you are to support gender ideology (and oppose the FWS ruling). That trend is pretty clear.

When I say centre- left I think labour tend to be a little more mixed on this issue. Whereas lib dems and greens are all in.

Well Labour have way more MP's than all the loony tune parties put together, so it might seem like they're more mixed because with that many MP's there's bound to be a cross section. For me it comes down to what the MP's are whipped into voting for and they all seem to tow the lefty line.
Plus Labour's support base is all leftie learning, there isn't one mainstream union who isn't promoting this batshittery for all their worth. So I'm still not seeing Labour as a moderate or centrist party.

I agree, this current incarnation of Labour is not centrist, or moderate, or particularly affiliated to the origins of left wing thinking and politics, and experience is proving a large number of MPs are activists with personal hobby horses that get in their way of actual understanding of issues, critical thinking and capacity for balance.

The misogyny is being increasingly dragged into the light, but rather than concern, interest or a wish to redress, what is happening increasingly is just excusing it, normalising it and defending it.

Edited to add: part of this is social media that was honestly put up with no awareness of how it made them look, and then rather than addressing it or considering it, just hiding it and pretending it never happened. And the ongoing absolute refusal to offer any groups or representatives from wider population views a seat at the table and clinging to their own pet activists. Jonathon Pie had it right: a Labour theme is 'no one say anything I don't agree with'.

PeachyDaisy · Yesterday 08:33

I said they are centre-left. Definitely not far left. Mixed on this issue for sure.

It might be controversial but I see the current labour UK party as more moderate or centre-left. Lib dems and greens are left-wing (with the greens being more extreme). If I met a lib dem or greens voter I would assume they would probably be pretty pro trans.

I don't know about controversial, but I'm not seeing it myself, the attack on the EA and the guidance to the SC clarification would appear to be headed by Labour politicians, even if the Lib Dems are taking the lead in quite a lot of it.

I agree the Lib Dems, Greens, PC, SNP represent the loony left but Labour are still the powerhouse for the energy behind this batshittery. The OP would support this aren't all the men on the 'manel' Labour?

PeachyDaisy · Yesterday 08:01

Women are more ‘left leaning’? Does left leaning mean denying reality? Yikes.

That's what the statistics say. A woman is more like to vote for a leftwing party (lib dem/greens) than a right wing one (tories/reform)

Also younger and university educated women are even more likely to vote for a left wing party.

There's an awful lot of people who promote this ideology are self-identified as being on the left, they claim they're the liberals and the democrats. Plaid Cymru in Wales, who are all gun ho for this stupidity, claim they're a party of the left, as do Labour. Despite the fact that there are people who might be considered to be on the typical Right, it's really difficult not to see this ideology as being left leaning.

For a trend to be a trend it doesn't have to be perfect. You obviously didn't read my post as I already said 'obviously exceptions exist'

For example the vast majority of conservatives MPs are against gender ideology but there are a few that support it (andrew boff from the tories for example). The link between political affiliation and position of trans ideology is there.

When people say things like this, my mind always goes to the nuns who ran the Magdalen Laundries, and mother and Baby Homes in Ireland.

They weren’t doing it for the good of the women and children. The women and children were treated with cruelty, and quite a few children were sold off into adoption. A sort of pre-surrogacy trade in children and babies. Those children that survived the awful conditions in which they were kept, that is. They were footsoldiers in, and unholding a system that punished women and children, whilst men went on with their lives unbothered.

edit to add; lots of women seem to happily act to keep men happy, and to the detriment of their own sex.

Well you must admit, a person would have to be some kind of weird and angry to issue threats to women and advocate them being “raped with splintery rolling pins” just for refusing to say men are not women. It’s the same kind of weird as Andrew Tate et al think. They believe women are second class citizens who should not have any rights, and exist to be props to men and I think the TRA are of the same I’ll. two sides of the same shit biscuit.

Thanks for the link. The fact that the post has been deleted is very telling.

"The now-deleted post boasted of the OEO’s “commitment to banning harmful Conversion Practices, and delivering a successful European IDAHOBIT+ Forum in 2027.”

This is what it's about, for these men it's a way of gaining access to power on a global level, the UK is just a stepping stone for them.

"...so swift to blame white liberal women for the collapse of civilisation,"

There's plenty of blame to go around and these women deserve to have their fair share placed at their feet, just because they're, maybe, unwitting footsolders for the patriarchy, and that's a big maybe on unwitting, it doesn't let them off the hook.
