James Groves "who also goes by the name of April"

What a brave victim and good to see accurate reporting at least

The victim, who was praised for her "exceptional bravery", said she lost her childhood due to the abuse.

Avon and Somerset Police's communications on this case avoid pronouns altogether and use "Groves" throughout.

I'd love to know how he was referred to in court.

Good for them. He’s quite clearly a “he” and doesn’t deserve the respect of being granted any choice in how officialdom refers to him. It would clearly be deeply inappropriate to refer to him as “she”
given the nature of the case.

Helleofabore · 21/09/2026 23:41

I hope that girl can start to work through what this vile man did to her.

Exactly this, it's very obvious what @TransParentlyAnnoyed is trying to do here.

I've made it really clear how I feel, as a victim myself.

Leave survivors alone. They don't need strangers dredging the details of their ordeals or weaponising their trauma.

There is a huge difference between being horrified at this news, and gleefully seizing on it as 'evidence' that trans women are all deviants.

Really telling that when women try to talk about how cis men have destroyed our lives, we get shouted down and told 'not all men'.

The only time we're ever allowed to discuss male aggression is in a transphobic context. Otherwise, we get rape and death threats.

I just want to add: everyone who continually reposts names and images of rapists, risks retraumatising their victims.

At least asterisk out their names or anonymise them. Stop reposting details of what was done, and their photos. It is deeply harmful to survivors.

Hmmm. This POS was all over my FB feed today. I don't think one post on mumsnet will make a lot of difference really. Why are you so keen to stop women on here specifically from talking about this?
If it's because we correctly identify him as a man understand that you are wasting your efforts here
The comments from both men and women under the Crimewatch post I saw earlier that consistently called this man a woman and she/her were pretty much all pointing out that this is a man and the correct pronouns are he and him.
People are waking up and getting angry about this shit. It's not just on here anymore. It's everywhere.
You're just pissing into the wind at this point.

Rightsraptor · 22/09/2026 05:32

James Groves's name, image and crimes need to be spread far and wide so people see what we're talking about when we hear about 'transwomen' being put on women's hospital wards, in women's prisons and all the rest.

Huh? You’ve had rape and death threats from whom? Just for saying all men are dangerous, not just the men in dresses? wow! The thing is though you say “cis” MRN are destroying lives. How do you know? I mean, do you know the gender identity of every man? I thought we couldn’t tell if people were trans. How do you know they are not masc presenting TIM?

Who are you talking about/to here?

Because it's definitely not the women on this board who have issued death threats to rape survivors (no matter who raped them), or told them it's not all men.

No one here has ever said that all trans identified men are rapists nor is there any "glee" at the prospect.

I think you are confused about where you are posting

Especially the line about getting rape threats for pointing out all men are dangerous…. That’s more a reddit/bluesky thing no?

No one is saying that, other than you.

Really? I refer you to the splintery rolling pin post I made earlier. Who made that threat, pray? Where is the evidence of such threats to “your side”?

Datun · 22/09/2026 06:26

TPA lives in a fantasy land where certain men, specifically those demanding access to vulnerable women and girls, can do absolutely no wrong. And if they do, it must be ignored.

BEAchDays2 · 22/09/2026 07:00

Just FYI I know this case, he didn’t identify as a woman until the trial.

Your prejudice about the posters on this board really seems to include you believing you can make such confident and disordered misrepresentations about what is discussed on this board.

That's good to know. I'm glad they continued to try him as a man and presumably did not require the victim to switch pronouns (I'm glad the bench book for judges has been updated so that ought to be a thing of the past now).

So another case of rapid onset post arrest gender dysphoria?

Kepler22B · 22/09/2026 07:43

Prison onset transitioning is an interesting phenomenon. And, I can only imagine, a massive kick in the teeth to his victim, especially if requested to call her attacker she/her.

How does @TransParentlyAnnoyed explain this sudden desire to transition only when arrested? Is it
a) an opportunity to live as their authentic selves? Call me cynical, but it does seem a tad odd timing.
b) a ploy to either reduce the sentence or get more favourable conditions in prison.
c) they think the jury/judge will believe that James not April did the crime and so April shouldn’t be punished?

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 22/09/2026 08:00

Interesting that it’s impossible to tell the difference between ‘tru trans’ (if there is such a thing), and a man who finds in convenient to pretend to be trans for some reason.
Almost as though there is no real difference. And certainly no mechanism for discriminating between them, meaning all must be treated as men.

Publicising the names and images of rapists frequently helps other, previously unknown, victims get justice. This is well-documented and I’m astounded you would stand in the way of this.

BEAchDays2 · 22/09/2026 08:37

It’s utterly wild that when somebody commits a sex crime as a man, the fact that they then decide to identify as a woman would let them into a woman’s prison. Thank God that bullshit seems to be in the past. (I hope)

No one here is defending any male person who has committed a crime of sexual violence.

You just don’t like any transwoman being in the news for rape because your mantra is “no transwomen” do this when they clearly do.

You don’t want the photo up because it clearly shows a man presenting as “female” when your belief system demands that “no one can tell” and “TWAW” and “transwomen are the most vulnerable of every one” and women should shut up and make themselves into human shields and uncomplainingly share all single sex spaces with them to protect them from other males.

Unfiltered images make the lies harder to sustain.

No one here is saying “all transwomen”.

You are utterly blinkered by your beliefs and don’t seem to have any reading comprehension if you think women here only condemn trans rapists or claim that all transwomen are rapists.

There is no such thing as cis men
stop trying to separate men who play act at being women from all other men

No one had said that all trans women are deviants - though now that you mention it - play acting at being a woman is pretty deviant…

Where is the evidence that men have destroyed the lives of ‘trans women’ no evidence at all…

but plenty of evidence that there are men pretending to be women who destroy the lives of women

Bringemout · 22/09/2026 08:51

I sometimes look at the aprils of this world and think does anyone else realise how ridiculous it all is, put on a wig and tada you are a woman.

Igmum · 22/09/2026 09:01

Evil man. I’m glad that at least he got a reasonable sentence and I hope he serves every minute of it.

Before the great trans beatification when we realised that no man pretending to be a woman would ever ever commit a crime, it was commonplace for experienced Police officers to warn the rookies that men who dressed as women were disproportionately likely to be involved in sex related crimes. The MOJ figures suggests that this is still true of the most serious rapes and assaults. I think it’s helpful for women to talk about that.

So great is your concern for this victim and not at all for the trans identifying man, no honestly it's not that you've so far posted THREE times on this thread, thereby ensuring that it keeps rising to the top of the list and gaining visibility.

If you'd simply left it alone it would have sunk pretty quickly.

What you are doing is ensuring greater visibility for this thread and causing the name and image of this MAN to be reposted over and over again.

You know full well people are going to respond to your inflammatory comments. It's transparently obvious.

iwishitwouldstartraining · 22/09/2026 09:28

This man's claims about his gender identity are relevant because until recently the policy was that he should be able to self identify into a women's prison and that everyone in court, including his victim, should refer to him using his preferred pronouns and the media would simply have called him a woman.

As far as we know Lisa Nandy still thinks this should be the case.

These things have only changed because women have made their voices heard, at no small cost to themselves.

MyDpsanarse · 22/09/2026 10:32

That photo is very telling, the sweet demure smile, the big innocent eyes, how could you think they'd be guilty of such a vile crime? Hopefully the message that you'll still end up in a man's prison will put a stop to this farce
