That is certainly what I have understood. And it is claimed by rapists and paedophiles to be very unfair for possible rapists or paedophiles to have their names and pictures published, lest people leap on the bandwagon and make spurious claims against them.

This can happen, of course. There was a time when Paul Gambaccini felt quite strongly about that. He was never charged with any offence, but was kept on bail for well over a year in what he described as a "flypaper" operation by the Metropolitan Police, who subsequently had to pay him for loss of earnings as a result of their action. Yes, I remember when gays were targetted in this way: Cliff Richard was another who had clearly done nothing whatever to deserve being hounded as he was.

In general, though, making a rapist known makes it likely he doesn't get away with offences that he was not originally charged with.

As many criminals seem to change name, at least I read articles where the perpetrator is described as having several known aliases, a photo can be invaluable in alerting other victims. This is possibly doubley valuable with trans identifying criminals as news sources, and even the Police, can be remarkably squeamish about reporting names the person went by in their biological sex.

I thought one of the reasons that rapists' faces and crimes are publicised is that it makes it easier for other potential victims to come forward. IIRC that was certainly the case with John Warboys.

I can't off-hand recall which sex TPA's putative trans child was said to be attempting to move from, but I wonder how happy TPA would be for TPA's child and this lying, fantasist/opportunist, obviously male rapist to have to share space for any length of time.

I only see one poster on this thread who appears to be acting gleefully. And that's the poster who is gleefully using it as yet another opportunity to tell us what awful individuals we are for daring to point out that yet again the thing that apparently never happens has indeed bloody happened again.

There is a huge difference between being horrified at this news, and gleefully seizing on it as 'evidence' that trans women are all deviants.

What I see on this thread is people pointing out the discrepancy between TRA rhetoric about all trans women being kind gentle souls and the reality that they still offend at the rate of other males.
And that this man, however he identifies, doesn't belong in a women's prison.
And that we're cautiously pleased that he's not skewing the rape statistics by being recorded as female.

He is no different to any other man with a gender identity. Some of them are sex offenders. (Some of them are vegetarians. Some of them have blue eyes.) That a male population inevitably contains sex offenders is just one the reasons women have single sex spaces.

Although, at the moment at least, men who claim to be trans don't get put into female prisons there may still be advantages for they/them. I believe they're not required to share cells and they can still mix with female prisoners. They're just segregated at night and (hopefully) they're no longer permitted in the female showers.

At least the single room seems to be the thing in Scotland, not sure if it's the same in England and Wales. The mixing was taking place at Downview(?) I think it's still the case but I'd love to be wrong.

@TransParentlyAnnoyed please come back with the results of your complaint to the Beeb about how publishing names and pictures of criminals is retraumatising their victims. I'm sure you have complained to them, and all the other outlets. After all you're not a massive hypocrite.

Men pretending to be women are liars. When people lie to your face about something that is blatantly untrue, they are telling you so many things about themselves, and one of those things is that they have no concern for your discomfort, that they expect you to go along with that lie,

After all there is no actual gender dysphoria in someone who is only selecting a 'gender' to avoid being put in with all the other chaps who might not appreciate his crime, and act out similar with him as the victim...

and gender dysphoria is a genuine mental health illness which needs compassion, whereas I suspect that not many will feel compassion for this man, or his rapid choice of a different 'gender' to benefit himself...
